I thought Famous, Rich and Jobless would do better than that considering the poor competition - the first series launched in the summer last year with 4.7m iirc. But I suppose 4m for a documentary is good.

Pretty standard Tuesday night for ITV1 (i.e. poor!). L&O: UK rated very similar to previous weeks and certainly hasn't temporarily solved their Tuesday night problems. Doc Martin repeats could easily get 3.5m in that slot, but I think they're going to air those repeats in the summer.

Surprisingly, CSI was relatively low despite the fairly substandard competition. I think the only channel to do relatively well at 9pm was C4.

Pretty subdued night all round. Even the soaps at the lower end of their usual shares.

Law and Order didn't repeat as well as ITV might've been hoping in a very weak slot - the headache on Tuesdays continues. Famous, Rich and Jobless did very averagely too. Sounds like a less interesting take than the Homeless doc last year and the ratings reflect it.

One Born Every Minute has been a much needed success for Channel 4. Quite an obvious place for a fly-on-the-wall, I'm surprised its not been done before. Sounds like its been done very well, though.

It's a shame the BBC felt the issue needed to be celebrity led for the public to watch it as I'm sure the real stories of people would have made for a better documentary - but that was shunted to after the news to allow the BBC to trivialise the issue first.

BBC1 lower than I expected last night. EE seems to be finally losing momentum but not surprising considering storylines are quite bland currently imo. Also surprising to see Holby down and first time below 6m in a while. And thought Famous, Rich and Jobless would benefit from poor competition. That said, a solid performance as usual for BBC1 on Tuesdays.

ITV1's situation seems to get worse. Didn't really expect L&O to top 3m at all-I always thought it was one of those shows which wouldn't repeat well, much like Trial & Retribution. However the more alarming thing is stuff was getting over 3m between 7.30-10pm last year and that was classed as flop zone and now nothing can even touch 3m and some is struggling to make 2m! ITV need to sort it out, by either stripping dramas over Monday & Tuesday or moving a big hitter to Tuesdays. I've always thought an entertainment schedule might do alright, something like:

7.30pm-YBF
8pm-Family Fortunes (those 2 episodes ITV had left could have been placed here)
9pm-WWTBAM

Whatever happens I can't see L&O lasting the full 12 weeks!

The fact factual programmes are performing extremely well on CH4 and the 9pm figures especially would not look out of place on ITV1 just shows ITV need a new approach.

Also the CSI franchise in general seems a little down this year and the trilogy doesn't seem to have had a lasting effect. However I think repeats and timeshift are performing better.

ITV1 came 2nd last at 9pm. Terrible night for them.
Good for BBC2's solar system program rpt which grabbed another 2m last night as well so making nearly 5m in total.

It certainly was. Another one of those cases where first run viewing doesn't tell nearly the whole story. It's still well inside the Top 10 on iPlayer too. Very impressive stuff.

I think Ashes to Ashes has been delayed

digiguide has update with this

Sunday: Seven Ages of Britian
Monday: New Tricks
Tuesday: Richard Hammonds Invisible Worlds
Wednesday: Panorama
Thursday: Inside the Perfect Predator
Friday: Over the Rainbow

its also not mentioned in the week 12 unplaced section, however it does now have a press pack

Moving on a 2nd episode of Heroes has been added to saturday, im guessing this allows BBC 2 to catch up with BBC 3 due to week off it had recently, however are marked episode 11.

BBC One might be aiming for a big Easter weekend like ITV1 had with the final of The X Factor

Good Friday: Final Over The Rainbow auditions/selections
Easter Saturday: First Over The Rainbow live show and Doctor Who launch
Easter Sunday: Jonathan Creek
Easter Sunday: The return of Ashses to Ashes

OK, maybe not as big as The X Factor final, but they could tie it all together in their marketing.

I think you're spot on. They're clearly building up to one big Easter weekend - there would be no other reason why there's so much filler in the schedules in the next 2 weeks.

The final ever episode of A Touch of Frost is set to air on Easter Sunday on ITV1, so that's going to be one interesting ratings battle as both shows are capable of getting 8m+.

I take it you mean Easter Monday for Ashes To Ashes?

Seems like Ashes To Ashes is being delayed until the new financial year and so it can finish just before The World Cup.

And, what will make it even more enjoyable, is no work on the Monday. For me anyway. Can't speak for anyone else.

My theory about MSO starting 2 weeks later is really starting to gain substance considering this is the 3rd New Tricks repeat on the trot...

Panorama in the 9pm slot has flop written all over it, no idea about Thursday or Friday.

Going forward, it's not going to matter too much on a nightly basis. Leno will still top Letterman with decent lead-ins which he will have for the rest of the week. But it lends considerable support to the argument that The Jay Leno Show's poor 10pm ratings played a big part in Conan's lower ratings.”

Sorry for quoting myself but apparently I was wrong... it is going to matter on a nightly basis.

In very early (and rarely particularly accurate) overnight ratings, Letterman beat Leno in the household ratings (3.5 vs 3.2) for the first time.

Leno has a narrow lead in the 18-49 demographic with 1.1 vs Letterman's 1.0. However, the recent trend has been for Leno to fall and Letterman to rise in the final data which we can expect to come through in a few hours.

Looks like Leno & Letterman may find themselves in a real ratings battle this time.

Surely it's time Have I Got News for You was dropped - it was beginning to tire even before Angus Deayton got axed, and although initially the guest hosts freshened things up, it's been stuck in no mans land ever since - and frankly it's just lazy scheduling/commissioning by the BBC to keep it going.

Nothing there would top 4m - could even struggle to top 3m. The two-part dramas is proven though and for the first half of the last decade worked spectacularly well for ITV - but were pricey.

Quote:
“Whatever happens I can't see L&O lasting the full 12 weeks!”

I really don't think that figure last night was too bad at all for a repeat of a fairly modestly successful series, and remember it's as much about revenue as it is about ratings. A repeat of Law & Order is surely coming in cheaper than most of the "factual entertainment" which has been in the slot lately.

Quote:
“The fact factual programmes are performing extremely well on CH4 and the 9pm figures especially would not look out of place on ITV1 just shows ITV need a new approach.”

One Born Every Minute would just be branded another Tuesday night flop if over on ITV. Those sort of shows are never going to get massive ratings, and 3m on ITV1 would be deemed a flop.

Indeed if it was ITV and not C4 doing it it could even get less viewers due to perceptions of the channel - C4 can push it as a flagship PSB documentary series, but on ITV1 it probably be deemed cheap documentary/reality filler.

HIGNFY is a bit like Ian Beale on EE.

no one would dare axe it, and will be on TV, until Paul & Ian decide they have had enough.

Of course why they would decide that I dont know, its good regular work for them, without eating into too much of there week, they are both free to do other things most of the week, and film less than 20 weeks a year. I dont know why they would give it up.

When it does end I would like it to be when Ian & Paul leave together and the BBC decide they cant carry on without both of them, rather than one leaving and the show carrying on, becoming a shadow of its former self.

Britain's Got Talent vs Dr Who 2010...

How will this play out?
I am assuming Dr Who will play at 7pm each Saturday from Easter Saturday, and BGT to follow at 7.45pm from 17th April?

Also with Eurovision, and the Champions League Final - patterns may vary week to week?

I also read that ITV1 are pushing to get the FA Cup Final to start at 5.30pm this year to attract more interest.
