Just imagine how big the ratings would have been if it was on the BBC

Would've had more on BBC1, it's a bit like the Queens Speech...

Those aren't good figures for BBC1, they'd do better moving EE to Wednesday, the Wednesday edition they had a few weeks ago actually did well and supported the rest of the schedule.

A bit stupid for both BBC1 and 2 to be running factual line ups last night between 8-10.

I agree. I think EE should be on from Monday to Thursday, leaving Friday night clear for entertainment shows, films, drama specials etc.

Great rating for the football because as GeorgeS said, it was a non-contest. I guess the Beckham hype worked. There's going to be a big fall next week, however, what with two foreign teams playing.

Mediocre night for BBC1, but BBC2 performed extremely well between 7-10pm to average 2m+. Inside John Lewis certainly exceeded my expectations, and it wasn't too far behind BBC1 at the time!

Looks like C4 was hit by the football coverage, but Five held steady especially NCIS which isn't too far behind CSI nowadays.

I still think ITV does better with the Northern Teams while BBC does better with the Southern/Welsh/Scottish/Foreign teams. Great figure for ITV there, but it looks like the BBC One could be developing a little Flopzone there.

It's March, the end of the financial year. BBC TV has clearly ran out of money. See the 9pm offerings on BBC1 between the 21st and 26th of March....

I lived in Oz for a while, TV is shocking over there. I rarely watched anything, I had like one programme a week or something. Actually not a bad thing, I was way more productive.

That's quite impressive for a series previously shown on BBC Wales which looked like the acme of cheap filler, especially as Rhod Gilbert isn't that famous. It also illustrates just how awful The Persuasionists was to get 300,000 in that slot.

It's quite sad to see that Neighbours is one of the lowest rated TV shows during primetime in Oz . I can't say I'm that surprised seeing as the show has had a succession of bad producers for around 5 years and the quality is quite poor because of this. Also, TEN are stupid for putting it on at 6:30 up against 'A Current Affair' and 'Today Tonight'.

Overall, the standard of programmes across all the channels looks so weak. A country that has a population of 20m+ has no excuse for such poor TV.

Dancc why is A Current Affair on both 7 & 9, one of them should be Today Tonight.

one thing im reading about Neigbhours, is that it is being hit hard by the freeview channels in Australia, 7Two etc

but the general thing to remeber about Australian TV is that ratings are poor due to the fact its not part of Australian culture like TV is over here, hence the large amount of US & UK imports, to be honest I dont think there would be much Aussie drama, if the Australian government didnt put a quota on the channels.

I'd be very surprised if the weather wasn't the main reason.

Are there any demographic breakdowns for Australian ratings? The 16-34 (or whatever) demo over here tends to be fairly low as it is, I'd dread to think of what it's like in Australia with the weather and of course the differences in TV culture.

Neighbours ratings, as a proportion of Ten's ratings have remained pretty solid.

Yeh it was getting higher figures before, but so was the rest of Ten's schedule.

I think it's a shame that they don't really have much of a TV culture as it's a great way to unite a country through something as simple as a TV show. However, I think the Aussie government need to increase quota of original content because when they get it right, the networks can have huge successes, just look at 'Kath&Kim', 'Masterchef Australia' and 'The Chaser's Report on Everything'.

Top 50 shows by the 3 main demographics

Neighbours being

568,000 - 25th most watch show of the day (Total people)
315,000 - 21st most watch show of the day (People 18-49)
257,000 - 11th most watch show of the day (People 16-39)

Interesting the much hated The 7pm Project (think Live from Studio TEN) has this demo

295,000 - 6th 11th most watch show of the day (People 16-39)
