yes its true TEN made a massive hit of Masterchef, but Kath & Kim & The Chaser are ABC productions (funded by the tax payer)

However Kath & Kim left ABC for commercial network 7 for its 4 & final series.

Yes, fancy thinking that BBC1 were going to put religion on in peak-viewing, especially on a Friday.

Well let's face it, she was never going to sing.

She pulled out of the chat a few weeks back and was replaced by Amy Williams.

Today she has pulled out of the performance because she is ill.

was hoping for a day for Ashes to Ashes, so far we have ruled out 3 of 7 days, it was never going to be Saturday, HIGNFY means its not Friday, and its not Tuesday unless they delay it again, so that leaves us with Sunday, Monday, Wednesday & Thursday.

I dont even want to think of a Ashes to Ashes vs The Bill sitution.

I think it would be short-sighted of the BBC to put Ashes To Ashes against The Bill on Thursdays. Most expect Ashes to slaughter The Bill and that may make ITV decide to axe it sooner, which would be a bad thing for the BBC as whatever ITV would replace it with would probably be stronger competition.

That would be good for the BBC, as it would make the commercial sector strong with the BBC there - which is what the BBC wants.

Anyways, I wants to see The Bill go out in style and be slaughtered! I'd be laughing all the way to this thread.

Very good night for ITV.

it could be amusing for the ratings headlines alone, however I do fear it will end up with the Murdoch papers asking why the BBC is putting one of its strongest shows up against the Bill.

as for ITV replacing The Bill with something stronger, it really has enough reasons to do that already, and what does ITV have that would be stronger?

I think that docu-drama on Atlantis will air on Sunday (even although it's not in the press pack) with Ashes to Ashes on Monday. Don't they have a Crimewatch to air this month as well?

Sunday seems unlikely for Ashes to Ashes, personally I think it will be Monday or Thursday

I wonder if The Big Bang Theory will have new episodes in week 13, guess we find that out with the digiguide update tomorrow.

I don't think ITV could replace it with anything stronger. Anything they replace it with would almost certainly get lower 16-34 ratings too.
In the first half of 2009, the thurs 9pm slot average during the 7 months before the Bill moved there was 3.79m. Thats 0.1m lower than what The Bill averages now. ie: 3.88m.
They'd be foolish to not sort out Tuesday's first anyway.

its a sad state that ITV cant replace a failing show like the Bill, because a) it has nothing to replace it with and b) it has bigger problems elsewhere.

Interesting theory - not sure if there's any substance to it, but it would kind of stand to reason that locally at least teams from Granadaland perform better for ITV than teams from Carltondon.

Amazing that was Gossip Girls best rating so far, which isn't anything to shout about. Any very annoyingly next week they're splitting American Idol for it - that might boost ratings for Gossip Girl slightly, but again American Idol will lose a considerable chunk of it's audience for it's second hour.

Exactly, though really all channels should have something on stand by to fall back onto when a slot needs filling. I wonder if repeats of The Bill (pre-revamp) might in fact perform better than the new episodes.

I hope not. One extra thing in favour of Doctor Who getting the 7pm-ish slot this year is the possibility Webber might have piddled on his fireworks with a few people at the BBC.

Another "fail" for Sky 1. That's TV Burp and Gavin and Stacey now.

I would not go that far, but both Ian Beale & HIGNFY are in the same sitution. Seriously could you ever see the BBC axing it?

Originally Posted by Brekkie:

for that the BBC seems to use New Tricks repeats, and even that out rates the Bill.

Whilst The Bill has a stable audience, the timeslot is a very high profile slot, where channels put out there best, that is not The Bill. You dont use a "time slot filler" show in that timeslot.

If the BBC can put out a New Tricks repeat and attract better ratings The Bill, then this is a sign that ITV needs to be doing better.

The Bill vs Ashes to Ashes as ive said previously is unthinkable, and could well see it get a maximum of 3.5 million over those 8 weeks. I would not be surprised to see it below 3 million vs Ahses to Ashes.

Alan Titchmarsh show ratings yesterday:

Quote:
“Earlier in the day on ITV David Camerons appearance on the Alan Titchmarsh teatime show was watched by 1.7m, a 12% share. About average for the show since it moved to 5pm.”

While on the point of HIGNFY, its the 20th anniversary this year on 28th September - which is on a Tuesday. Any chance of a 20th anniversary special?

Ten are at least trying, but So You Think You Can Dance is rating worse than Australian Idol now.

Also, TEN are stupid for putting it on at 6:30 up against 'A Current Affair' and 'Today Tonight'. ”

True. It's a difficult slot. Then again where else could they put it? 7pm is out because of H&A. 6pm is out because of the news. 5pm is out because of Ten's own news. That only really leaves 7:30pm which isn't really practical.

“Overall, the standard of programmes across all the channels looks so weak. A country that has a population of 20m+ has no excuse for such poor TV.”

We are starting to see things pick up again as the winter approaches, but yes in terms of original aussie programming it's a little disappointing at the moment across most of the networks. At least Packed to the Rafters will be back soon for a full 22 episode run.

Yes, I highlighted this a while ago. Whilst Neighbours is on air you have around 150-200k watching either 7TWO, GO! or One which didn't exist this time last year. I do think it is having an effect and would explain some of the decline we are witnessing with Neighbours.

Wouldn't surprise me if they sniff around after any future Gavin and Stacey specials, especially as James Corden now suddenly has a job on Sky 1's They Think It's All Over clone.

[quote=gottago;38971823]I'd be very surprised if the weather wasn't the main reason.

It's still late summer/early autumn over there as well so expect better programmes and ratings in a few months time
