A one-series wonder. It couldn't cope with the loss of Ramsey. Also it was reportedly quite expensive as all the celebs had to live with each other and so they demanded big fees. This new show is apparently much cheaper.”

Sorry wrong year, 2007 was 3.9, but I know some early shows in 2009 perilously close to the cancellation level of 3 million or less. Also the long gaps between series, reality shows really have to be an annual thing as people quickly move on and forget, can't have been too helpful ratings wise. Again another factor in its demise could have been, as pointed out, high costs relative to its ratings( I'm A Celeb probably costs slightly more but pulls in double the ratings) and also the fact costs can't be recouped in repeat showing s and DVDs.

About as nothing to with ratings as it is possible to be, but this quote made me spill my tea.

From Ally Ross in The Sun:

TV GOLD. Happiest TV news was that, over a week after the initial shock, using thermal imaging equipment and and a mechanical hoist, the Chilean earthquake rescue team have successfully pulled Piers Morgan from Simon Cowells rectum.

Well if it does could it beat the ITV1 game tomorrow, which I can see going sub-3m.

Be interesting come the World Cup what the games in primetime on ITV not featuring England (so 25+ group games and all games from the quarter finals onwards! ) get.

Did Collision have a midweek England international to compete with, nudging down its average?

Granted, Five Days only had to compete with an ITV England international, thus limiting the damage...

In fairness, many people will already have it on his album for months. Unusual for an artist to release an album track for a charity single rather than some specially recorded pap.

I think tomorrow will be another very poor night for ITV1 as only the most enthusiastic football fans will want to watch a Champions League match involving two foreign teams and if it's bad, expect ratings of 2 million. Only Emmerdale will do them a favour- and this isn't so great now- but in the rest of peaktime ITV1 will be flattened. 2 bad nights in a row must have alarm bells ringing.

A couple of things from Bothers Bar. Firstly, The Whole 19 Yards begins on Saturday 17th April, so will probably find itself paired with Britain's Got Talent.

A secondly - somehow Tonight's the Night - the John Barrowman show which wasn't quite as bad as the Graham Norton show, but still bloody awful - has been recommissioned, and will be packaged around the National Lottery.

I doubt it, there's nothing they can do about the football, besides not bothing with the entire CL contract just because they occasionally end up with an all-foreign match.

Plus the demographics are good for football matches and it improves ITV1's profile.

Yes most of the audience will be male which will make a change from ITV1's mostly female C2DE demographic. However, I could imagine when Man U and Arsenal are shown in the quarters ratings will be up to 8 million. It's just this isn't going to be a very good pair of days for ITV.
Yet you do have to admire their courage in doing the unthinkable and moving Coronation St out of its Wednesday slot for football. I suppose if the two English teams go all the way, then ratings and profits will soar and an English team in the final can pull in 15 million viewers.

Robert Sillerman (CEO of CKX Entertainment which owns American Idol) said today that they are on the verge of signing a new deal with FOX to extend the show until 2014. The deal was originally delayed because of Simon Cowell's negotiations and there's now a minor issue about who is going to pay Ryan Seacrest's $15m a year salary but the deal should be done soon.

The last agreement in late 2005 guaranteed new seasons until 2009 after which the show had to meet a ratings target in the 18-49 demographic (8.0) for further renewals in 2010 and 2011. The current season is averaging about 8.6/8.7 just now, down around 8% from the same stage last year and CKX expect it to meet the target to trigger automatic renewal for 2011.

First of all, has DS been having problems tonight? It took me ages to read through a couple of pages on the thread thanks to snagging.

Anyway; I'm not sure what'll be worse for ITV1 - tonight's ratings or Chelsea going out. Coupled with no Liverpool or Real Madrid, they're really down to the slim pickings now. I guess Inter Milan will join Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona as club of choice now.

I don't think it'll do well, because Tarrant and Holden are not ratings draws. Tarrant was, but no longer is. Holden never was, and never will be.”

The Friday 9pm slot is becoming another death slot. They'd do better to fill the non-football Wednesday with light entertainment than Friday IMO.

ITV currently think with their pockets, not with their brains hence some of the bizarre moves.

Good move from the BBC - the link to the Lottery should see a small boost for it. Obviously they wanted to carry at least one Light Entertainment format forward from last year.

I do wonder whether You've Been Framed may offer ITV's late schedule more support than The Krypton Factor did. I wouldn't be surprised to maybe see a small boost for the channel tonight - though if there isn't one Sky Sports 2 could easily beat it!

At least Married, Single, Other is staying consistent just below 4m. The soaps had a normal Monday boost. New Tricks repeats are doing a job for BBC1.

“The Pacific" got off to a fair start in the ratings on Sunday evening, delivering 3.1 million viewers.

That's 22% higher than than the debut of HBO's last miniseries, "John Adams," and "The Pacific" tally grew to 4 million with its encore airing.

And to be fair although tonight's match may end up less than 3m, it might be a price worth paying for getting to screen three round 2 games featuring the home teams, rather than 2 as the old format allowed.

Talking of the Champions League though, has ITV4 losing matches affected their overall share much?

Seeing as DS soaps hasn't updated, Media Tel says:

Quote:
“Earlier on in the evening, BBC One dominated the pre-watershed slots. Eastenders pulled in more than 8.9 million peak viewers, followed by Holby City, which attracted over 5.8 million peak viewers.”

Those are figures are for the 15 minute peaks I think.

Does anyone have the figures for Married Single Other i.e. the 16-24 demos.

I really think ITV should recommission it for a longer series order, as it's got huge potential. The writing this series has been a bit cringey in parts but I'm sure they can learn from it.

They need to move it to like Sunday nights or something and market it better - improve the website and social media side; the Facebook has 25,000+ fans which is promising and shows it has a youthful/cult following.

If I were ITV I would bite the bullet at commission a 16 episode order for next year and move it to perhaps Sunday nights, market it better and work on making a better series. Push the boat out. It could be a success.

It's a bit quite round here today. Typical Tuesday night though - BBC One doing well and ITV falling to pieces. Richard Hammond's new show did alright, but it would probably have been about 500,000 less if his name hadn't been attached. One Born Every Minute is still doing quite well for Channel 4 as well.

Any of the usual suspects have the confirmed start date for Ashes to Ashes? I saw on the Radio Times website that Crimewatch is penciled in for Monday 29 March, with Richard Hammond on Tuesday, which leaves Wednesday or Thursday. Unless it's bumped again to the following Easter Monday.

Are you mad A sixteen epside order for a show which is struggling to get 4m in the overnights. Not even the most popular dramas on TV have that kind of episode order!

Monday 26th March doesn't exist this year.

And no, BBC Press Office for some reason hasn't updated yet for week beginning 27th March.

Matthew Graham says ashes to ashes will air on Fridays starting April 2

“To All - I am sanguine about an April 2nd airdate. I love this final series and if people watch it as well then all the better. Enjoy. xx

Hustle did very well in that slot and so did Silent Witness. Beeb have done their homework on this”

Will HIGNFY move to Thursdays like Mock the week or will it air @8.30pm

Friday, eh? Not to keen on that one, as it'll be leaving the rest of the week pretty bleak. Silent Witness worked there as they were two-parters, but I can't see A2A doing as well there compared to Mondays.

I don't think HIGNFY would suit the 8:30pm slot. Plus, they've both Outnumbered and Reggie Perrin to air in the next couple of months, so I'm guessing it'll be Thursday...if Matthew Graham is right about A2A on a Friday.
