Just out of interest, does anyone know how well that did in the ratings?

Also, as an aside, does anyone have any figures for BBC2's afternoon quiz Pointless?

I could see some comic fun in Ant & Dec pitching up in the Rovers Return, and having the residents put on a live variety show, in an attempt to win a grand prize, the product placed car for example.

It could be a week long story arc, which ends in a live episode of the fictional Ant & Dec show airing on ITV 1, as if we were all watching it in the Corrieverse. (this is getting tricky)

No idea but it was the most watched show on ITV Player on Wednesday, and is still in its most watched chart atm (okay it's no iPlayer but it does seem a lot more people than usual wanted to see it).

LOL Corries had more lower episodes then EastEnders all year”

They never do this yet its blatant common sense.

ITV were going great guns on Friday nights before they ditched the two-hour drama repeats at 8.30, and limited their scheduling options by moving the Friday news forward to 10pm.”

I'd do this too. Tuesday needs Corrie more than Friday needs a double Corrie.

Of course it is and it's only a one off.
Its like the Emmerdale at 7:00p, and 8:00pm when it clashed with Eastenders is still couldn't understand why it wasn't made into an hour 7:00-8:00

They could do worse than having a telethon of some sorts. Not he 27-hour jobbies they used to do in the late 1980s/early 1990s. A five-hour show with no regional opt-outs might be worth trying.

They could even do personnel swaps for mini-versions of struggling shows: how about Al Murray's Dining Stars or Michael Winner's Happy Hour?

I'd also do this, but the question would be, what would you put on at 8.30 for half an hour, and secondly, would Corrie airing at 7.30, 8.00 or 8.30 on different days be really messy?

Jeremy Kyle 1,000 did 1.6m (29%). Source: Digital-I.

You know how ITV stars all appear on the various chat shows to promote their programmes - Titchmarsh, Loose Women, GMTV, This Morning... Do all these presenters adopt the Al Murray style of questioning? "Tell us what it's about so we don't have to watch it." Cos that would explain a lot.

Yeah, it causes a few problems. I think the Thursday Coronation St would have to go to 8pm, with the second Emmerdale at 8.30, which wouldn't be ideal for Emmerdale.

As for Fridays at 8.30, maybe Airline, as it used to do well there, and if the rumours of Paul O'Grady getting a chat show are true, they could try that at 8.30, with something like old half-hour Benidorms at 9.30pm. I'd even have old Frost/Morse/Midsomer eps at 8.30pm for part of the year, with news delayed until half-ten.

Oh, yeah, and that'll give the BBC another slot where they can artifically boost the ratings for LIfe Of Reilly.

Stop having a go at the Friday 8.30 Corrie, people. It's thanks to that programme that we were able to kill off After You've Gone and drown Parents Of the Band at birth.

Even before the 8.30 Friday episode came along, a lot of BBC One sitcoms died in that slot: Mad About Alice, My Dad's the Prime Minister, Home Again, My Hero (series 6).

Yeah, definitely. But it proves people won't necessarily tolerate a bad sitcom in that slot even when Coronation St is not on.

A reasonable ratings banker for ITV in the 9.00 slot would be Taggart re runs. These tend to attract 5 million viewers.

somehow I think that there are plenty of people out there who make decisions on what they want to watch, not based on if Corrie is on or not.

Err, nowadays Taggart new episodes can't get 5m, so I doubt a repeat would.

A lot of rubbish programmes do sneak a recomission based on having an easy slot though.

At the same time, a lot of good programmes get axed because they were up against a major landmark series. I'm sure we've all watched shows that get axed even though you enjoyed it.

Yeah, but the slot still allowed After You've Gone and Green Green Grass to survive a lot longer that they deserved.

My Dad's the PM was a children's programme and when that was scheduled in that Friday slot, it was a new low for BBC1 sitcom, because it so did not belong in that slot. It went there to cover for the shocking lack of sitcom on BBC1, although looking at some of the programmes mentioned in some of these recent posts maybe there are actually too many sitcoms on BBC1

Oh, FFS, BBC1! Just axe all your sitcoms (apart from Outnumbered , the exception to the rule) and replace them all with Comedy Playhouse. 50 comedy pilots a year. You must be able to find some that are funnier than leprocy.

Rant over. (And relax).

TV Burp coming on now. Hurray!
