Run ITV1's 16-34 friendly shows against the BBCs biggest 16-34 draw. Mad!!”

What are you on about? The CL starting time has been able to change on many occasions - it depends on location - and it depends on negotiations. A match starting 30 minutes (if it suited both teams) could be done - and has been done before.

Oh yeah, BBC One's 8:30pm slot is really 16-34 friendly

Yeah, always raising a chuckle for patronising little barstools like you.

When have the Champions League times changed? As far as I'm aware, they've always been 19:45 UK time apart from matches in Eastern Europe which are at 17:30 due to the poor weather conditions.

GeorgeS is right. The chances of UEFA changing the Champions League match times just to suit ITV are nil.

I think GeorgeS was referring to You've Been Framed, which would dip from 4.5-5.0m in its usual Saturday slot to 3m against EastEnders.

Very good for the Boyzone thing on ITV1 - it was a very good scheduling move to place it between Dancing on Ice.

Strong for BBC One pre-watershed, and great for BBC2 with Wonders of the Solar System at 9.

--

The World Cup match split seems to be the one that everone was expecting. ITV have two great primetime England matches that are guaranteed to matter - thats too good to turn down for them. The USA game, in particular, could do brilliantly, I think.

There was no way the BBC were going to let themselves miss out on a knockout tie - the only question really is whether they'd get the quaters exlusive (as they did in '06) or not (as in '02) - looks like offering the primetime games tipped the balance.

Both sides will be satisfied, but if England do progress, then the BBC more so.

I know times for Europa League (or as it was known back then the UEFA Cup) can change at the broadcasters request, i.e. I think we've seen 20:05 and 20:10 kick off's in the past to suit ITV/BBC, but I've never seen a Champions League kick off time change.

Of course, a UEFA Cup game would be broadcast in a lot less countries compared to the Champions League.

Well, I was judging the situation on that - and I remember a match in Spain kicking off at 8:15-30 before.

But, George/rzt are probably right - as it is in more countries.

I've just had the press release for full details of BBC, ITV World Cup rights - which will be coming up on DS shortly.

Will provide the link ASAP

Thank you.

Will it be the actual press release or an article? Might be better to have the press release in one article with description in another if you get what I'm saying...

EDIT: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcas...tch-split.html --> could we have the Press Release as well?

Wonders of the Solar System is doing great and it is good to see intelligent programming doing well, I bet BBC One aren't as please as Seven Ages of Britain only beat it by 0.2m.

Wonder if ITV1 should consider more factual shows on Sundays, Islands of Britain did okay on Sundays but I guess it is more likely dramas like Frost and Lewis will take the 8-10pm slot.

After the success of 'The Lakes' (4.2m overnight average), ITV's commissioned 'The Dales' looking at life in the Yorkshire Dales. They're filming in the summer so it'll probably be on screen in the Autumn or early next year.

This is a total shambles.

As you say the data for Sky Sports is again complete rubbish - no data for any weekend programmes (which are, not surprisingly, the highest rated).

w/e 28 Feb is still wrong.

w/e 21 Feb is still completely missing.

Sorry but I have no confidence that anyone with the adequate seniority at BARB is dealing with this.

Please can you post the name, address (or email) of the Managing Director of BARB so I can contact him and make him aware of what is going on.

I do wonder if the BBC and ITV split the rights fee 50/50 because yet again it favours the BBC considerably. Yes, ITV get the advantage of two group games but then get nothing of value from the knockout stage - a simulcast game is of little value to them.

Not that England have a chance in hell of going past the quarter-final stage, but ITV really should have pushed for the semi-final exclusively - a massive gamble, but one that's worth it (I guess with the simulcast ITV will get the other semi final exclusively), or alternatively agreed to the deal - but after gifting the BBC the Euro 2008 final, they should have struck a deal to get the World Cup Final exclusively, with the BBC only showing it if England featured.

This is as a result of negotiation though, as I understand it both sides could show all of the games if they so wished. The BBC would never allow the semi-final and final to go unshown.
At the end of the day ITV have gone for definites -ie the first two group games which will presumably make them the proverbial shed load. The BBC will get the less attractive final tie and the rest is based on chance. If the situation was reversed ITV could be on a hiding to nothing.

I think the BBC have come off slightly better from the deal. Okay, they don't have the two England peak time group matches. But they'll almost certainly have 2 England matches (they will progress from the group stages), maybe more.

7 of 8 BBC1 peak time matches involves a 'big' team. The other match involves South Africa, and as they're the host it should rate fine. Likewise, ITV1's got 7 'big' matches in peak time but they've got a stinker in Denmark v Cameron.

BBC1 has more 3pm kick-offs during the group stage (9 to ITV's 7), including the tie of the round: Brazil vs Portugal. ITV has the better 12pm matches but they're not going to get big ratings. So for the group stages, I think the BBC and ITV are pretty even in terms of matches, maybe with ITV ahead due to having 2 England matches.

But from then on, BBC1 simply has all the best games. First pick every round, with a lot of second picks. The quarter finals, especially, are in the BBC's favour with 1st and 2nd picks in the majority of scenarios with ITV getting the worst two matches.

Should be a good tournament for the BBC I reckon, especially the knockout stages.

plus most ad budgets are spent early in the tournament

Surely ITV should have the first non-England pick of the quarters and semis with them not having the England matches?

Agree with everything there. If England get to the quarters then the BBC will have had the better deal but if they only get to the first knockout round or only the group stage then ITV will have got better value.

Indian Premier League, ITV4

Friday 12th
1415-1815 average: 260,000 (official)

Saturday 13th
1415-1825 average: 276,000 (official)

Source: BARB.

These are pretty respectable for a typically low rating channel across lengthy daytime slots.

The IPL was definitely a worthwhile acquisition.

If England get to the semis , then it'd be simulcast at a ratio of 4:1.

I expect we'll also see record breaking audiences for HD broadcasts during the World Cup this year.

Anyone know what programme currently holds the record?

ITV need to work on their negotiation skills then - they're clearly coming off as the junior partner in this deal.

I have found my book of ratings clippings from 1989.

I have: Tyson v Bruno, Sun, BBC1, 14.30m

It doesn't mention a timeslot.

Thanks DMN for typing the list-I do notice that at one stage on the 17th and 18th the BBC have four consecutive matches. The Daily Mail will no doubt be interested in this.
