DMN, just curious as to why you have no ITV3 figures if it came 1st in m/c yesterday?

It's not the first time David Renwick will have gone opposite A Touch of Frost - One Foot In The Grave did in 1995, and got around ten million compared to Frost's fourteen or so. I'm not sure it's quite the draw it once was, though.

The first series of Creek ran at eight o'clock, after the Lottery, though I know there were complaints that some of it was unsuitable for pre-watershed screening. But I can't see it being any more unsuitable than the likes of Midsomer Murders.

People say that there's nothing special on over Easter these days but I think Ashes To Ashes, Doctor Who and Jonathan Creek makes for quite a spectacular Easter line-up - OK, so the first two could have been shown any week of the year, but starting them both over Easter makes it seem quite special. They could have done a trailer with all three on and it would have looked quite impressive.

For a sit com to get 5 million at the moment is fantastic, its just a shame its such a poor one. I wonder what Out-numbered could get in that slot?

One thing it does show is that BBC may have found a slot where they can launch comedy, and at least get good sampling (big Top excepted as that was just awful). All they need to do now is try and produce a sit com that is actually quite good.

Ridiculous isn't it that if the BBC had put their Budget Coverage on BBC1 it would have trounced ITV. Wouldn't quite get the champagne out yet though - I'd bet in the time ITV was on air the BBC was probably ahead, with the extra hour of analysis really bringing the ratings down.

And back to the World Cup, I guess the only way ITV would have any chance of beating the BBC in a simulcast is if games were on BBC2.


As for England's Euro 2012 qualifiers - remember ITV only have the home ones, so be interesting to see if they go all out to get the away qualifiers. Sky will have the Wales v England game, and frankly none of the other away fixtures look too lucrative, so wouldn't be surprised if ITV pass on them.

And assuming Britain's Got Talent remains in the same slots, can see the finals week that year being Mon 30th May - Fri 3rd June, with England v Switzerland on Sat 4 and the BGT final on the Sunday - which actually would work out rather well as I've always thought they should have a days break between the heats and the final to give those who go through from Friday more time to prepare.


Gossip Girl nothing special at all for ITV2 (indeed anything with less viewers than Live from Studio Five surely qualifies as a flop, whatever channel it's on!) - yet ITV2 still putting it in the middle of Idol, which is losing a good chunk of it's audience for it's second hour later in the evening.

what I said about Desperate Housewives taking a 3 week break, I take it back, the 3 comedy roasts air in the same week, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.

OVer 5m for a comedy is OK? OMG if it was on ITV we'd never hear the end of it. Great figures for Masterchef seems to be steadily climbing.

Mind you, according to someone on another forum:

- executives will be very pleased Doctor Who's overnights come in at 6.5m
- executives are expecting over 7m for the Ashes to Ashes premiere
- ITV are expecting 5.5m to 6m for The Door for the Friday with a 'rise' (not a typo) the following night!

ITV bosses also thought Dining Stars should get 4.5m but they were slightly under from that.

Although better than it looked like they might be with the first few episodes, I don't think Masterchef's figures justify the move to BBC1 at all. When you look at how other "promoted" shows have faired, usually topping 6m quite comfortably, there is just no justification in the show being on BBC1, especially in primetime in slots the programme isn't produced for (it's ridiculous the BBC still have it produced in half-half episodes when it hasn't aired that way for a few years!).

WDYTYA and The Apprentice were 9pm shows, which is way different.Masterchef is an 8pm show and last year only 1/5 of its episodes were against the soaps this year 3/5 of its episodes are against soaps.

I very much doubt the beeb were expecting 6m against Corrie. The show is getting higher ratings than Waterloo road was getting last year as the lead in to THE Apprentice on Wednesdays .

The show is getting around 4.5m on a Thursday against ITVs soap block so I dont see how you can say that it doesnt '' justify its place on BBC ONE'' Only the opening episode of Watchdog has perfomed as well in that slot.
Also the Friday episode is doing better than Q of S was doing in that slot on Friday last year.

I think QI is the same, which was quintessentially BBC Two.

VERY few shows get 6m+ in the 9pm slot at the moment, only ones I can think of in recent times are Hustle, Silent Witness, Five Days.
IN fact loads are scraping 4m number, MSO, The Bill, so actually I think Masterchef is more than holding it's own.

Loads of things get loads of hype and do terribly, PTOS and Dining Stars being prime examples.

Even Ant & Dec are hovering around 4m with PTB and look at the hype they get and on a Saturday evening.

I agree the show is doing very well in difficult slots for the Beeb. The poster who said it didnt justify its slot, recently said that Jonathon Creek was a 'modest hit show' that was being burned off at Easter and that ITV1s 'This Morning' was winning its slot and beating BBC one where in fact it trails BBC one by a very significant margin. So his ratings 'analysis' doesn't hold much water.

I would have thought most people would have got their budget news from the One O'Clock News on BBC1.

Good rating for Life of Riley, decent for MasterChef and bad for Panorama (even though Panorama wasn't in the title!). The football rated a bit lower than I expected - Tottenham's no Man Utd/Liverpool but they're still one of the most popular teams (in ratings terms) so I thought it the coverage would've been able to average just under 5m. Awful for Desperate Housewives on C4.

A few bits of commissioning news:

- New BBC1 4-part drama, Single Father, starring David Tennant and Suranne Jones. Looks like a hit.
- BBC Two has a new 7x30 entertainment show, The Rob Brydon Show. It'll have standup comedians, musical guests, etc.
- The second series of The Cube has nine episodes and will return in late Summer/Autumn on ITV1.
- Channel 4 has recommissioned Embarrassing Bodies with 18 more episodes. No surprise there given its strong ratings this series. They've also commissioned a new 4-part spin off, Embarrasing Fat Bodies.

Sport Relief: 16-34: 1.5m (35%)... ABC1: 3.7m (38%)
Richard Hammond’s Invisible Worlds (ep1): ABC1: 2.0m (19%)
Married Single Other (ep5): 16-34: 0.72m (14%)... ABC1: 1.7m (15.5%)

MSO's 16-34 rating was its lowest so far this series, even though in total numbers it was its second best performance. The slight dent in the 16-34 rating was probably due to FlashForward which had 10% in the demo, double what Five had the previous week.

In terms of Audience Appreciation, MSO had 90/100 for that episode which is amazing and literally as high as it gets for an ITV1 programme.

Its ratings reflect the public's low esteem for politicians at the moment. People would rather wait for a straightforward news bulletin than watch the speech itself.

I wonder what the BBC2 rating and peak was between 12:15 and 13:30 (ie over the same period as ITV1 showed it)?

I don't know what its doing in the other parts, but absolutely HORRIBLE weather in the Midlands tonight could boost ratings. Lashing it down with rain.

No, because the Budget's been on BBC2 since 1990, ever since the Commons started being televised, because that's where the Commons coverage is. The only time it hasn't been is in 1997 when it was during Wimbledon which was on BBC2. Be different if it was only on BBC Parliament.

In addition, the speech was still going on when the One O'Clock News was on and obviously it would have dominated that. And it's hardly as if ITV can take the moral high ground as for most of the nineties they didn't even show it, they just extended the teatime news for ten minutes.
