Dancing on Ice Final - 8.8m (32%)
* peak: 10.0m (36%)

Quite poor, really. The last two finals had 11.7m (44%) and 10.8m (43%), so that's a big decline.

According to the overnights provided by DS, this series averaged 7.7m (29%). Down 0.66m (-8%) from last year's series. It's the second least watched series of the programme ever.

Wow, that really is poor.

*wonders if ITV has put the axe away yet, or if it will have to get it back out the shed*

I'd hardly say it's in danger of the axe. Audiences of just under 9m across 2.25 hrs of primetime is not exactly a common occurrence on ITV1 these days.

Sure, it's down at a time when most other reality shows appear to be on the up, but it's not really at crisis levels at 9m.

The danger is this could be the beginning of a steeper decline as we witnessed with Big Brother, in which case it could be at risk in the future. But it's impossible to tell from just the one series.

Having said all that, if TXF / BGT posted a finale audience of just under 9m, then that would be a disaster for ITV.

But DOI is like fourth in the pecking order, behind IAC also. It's not as important as the big three IMO.

true I should know better, ITV would never axe a pointless reality show.

Dancing on Ice used to be top of the pecking order in 2006. How times have changed!

I agree with what you said that the ratings are obviously still very good for ITV and the show's currently nowhere near close to the axe. But they should freshen up the format a little bit next year as it seems to be exactly the same as when it started out in 2006. Also the long duration of the shows this year can't have helped.

they would appear to be a business and base decisions on whether shows make money or lose money. Ratings figures are only part of that equation.

Poor for the DOI Final. I knew it would be down, but I did think it would top 9m and now its highest rating of the series is for the first show rather than the final which is never a good sign.

Ultimate Movie Toons got 3.5m (16%). Poor again, but I don't think anyone expected much more for it.

Dancing fatigue. All the dancing shows are down year on year. Hurts BBC1 the most as they have most of the hoofing shows

Film 2010 has a new presenter and it is...Claudia Winkleman!!!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pre.../29/film.shtml

By the sounds of the press release, I think she'll be more of a host rather than a presenter, with a roster of reviewers joining her in the studio each week.

EDIT: I also read just on another forum that Sue Johnstone confirmed on Saturday Kitchen that the next series of Waking the Dead will be the last.

Quite a drop in ratings for the final and series average, but I can't say I'm too surprised as the high number of dancing talent shows has saturated the market. Ideally, it would be better if there was only SCD and DOI as it would mean that dancing shows would be on less often. For the final to drop 3m in the space of two years is quite shocking.

Film 2010 always rates poorly, never getting much above 500k. I'm surprised its seen as such a big gig. I suppose you get loads of freebies from doing it

Not sure what the BBC were expecting for the Enid repeat, but it didn't do well. BBC2 had a good night with Wonders of the Solar System's audience increasing once again in a difficult slot.

A good series for Lark Rise to Candleford, averaging 6.1m in the overnights. That's up from last year's 5.9m.

Few shows that are broadcast at close to midnight and get zero promotion attract much of an audience.

Also, compare the average moviegoer with the average BBC1 viewer. It's about 40 years and they don't like movies or reviews of movies.

The Film Programme with JR would have done better on BBC4 in prime-time quite frankly.

With Winkleman at the helm soon, BBC Three might be more apt.

Yes! A 10-pointer in the DS Ratings Prediction Game!

Philip Schofield is not presenting This Morning today. I bet he's not posting on Twitter either.

It's the second least watched series ever? They have only been five series. You make that sound a lot worse than it is.

Quite low for a new episode of CDWM. Obviously dented by DoI. Never mind, it will repeat well I'm sure.

Lark Rise did well. I'm sure when the figures are in for them, we'll see Countryside and Antiques Roadshow performed well too - especially considering the opposition Antiques Roadshow had for the majority of it's run.

Dancing on Ice is 0.6m down series-wise which isn't a disaster but a warning. The biggest joke is the series could've performed much better if they'd learnt from BBC1's mistakes with Strictly Come Dancing (don't drag it out, don't pick an inexperienced judge to replace another unpopular one, don't schedule it away from the slot where it's most comfortable). The final had a poor lead in and a dreadful lead out; I reckon it'll be 9m+ in the officials. ITV obviously used up all their advertising during the 7.45-10 marathon so just ditched rubbish either side of it.

Wonders of the Solar System did excellently on BBC2. I think BBC1 decided against launching something new against Dancing on Ice, and used filler. In hindsight, a decent popular drama could've pulled 5m+ there.

Too bad Enid didn't do well last night it really was an excellent drama.

And that makes DOI's peak look disappointing. Less than last year's average.

Of course, 99% of British TV shows would give their right arm to attract 8.8m viewers (not to mention quite a few in the USA as well).

It's been shown on BBC4 a few times already, I saw it before Christmas, it is really good though.

DOI is down a bit, but still v good ratings and has kept Sunday nights filled for ITV1 for the Winter, I doubt they are unduly worried.

Itrs been running for about 40 years so shouldnt need promotion & its on at midnight because it rates just as badly when it was tried out earlier in the evening.

I think it did well considering it's been shown 9 times already on other BBC channels. Three of those showings rated as follows...

BBC Four premiere 16/11/09 1,371,000
BBC Four repeat 21/11/09 471,000
BBC Four repeat 29/12/09 354,000

Total 2.2m

If we estimate that the other 6 showings did about 100k each, then that takes it up to around 2.8m.

When the official rating comes out for the BBC One showing, that will probably take it over the 6m mark.
