I havent seen any of MSO, but despite all the positive squeaks on this thread ratings have been nothing to write home about after an all too familliar plunge post week one. Word of mouth doesnt seem to have brought any new viewers in, even the ones who quickly deserted it.
I suppose 4 million isnt disastrous but it would need a repeat and very favourable 2nd series scheduling to become the hit some of the posts on here suggest it might be.

Yes, Five said they're repeating it as when it was on over Christmas "a lot of people didn't notice it because Christmas is always a busy time". Well, yes, so why show it over Christmas? We said here at the time that nobody would notice it, especially stripped at a different time every day.

Glee is a massive hit for E4. Cracking ratings and astonishing 18-34 percentage - I guess thats partly the channel, but still. The hype seems to be building it up if anything - so I wouldn't be particularly concerned about the short break.

I wonder what kind of first option deal C4 might have of future series, because Sky One are going to be sniffing around with the sort of fanbase the show has acquired.

The only scripted multichannel series I can remember thats sustained a run of episodes like this would be the second series of Gavin and Stacey. Speaking of which, are there any 18-34 ratings for that last autumn? I'd be curious to see if coming from BBC Three gave it a younger skew than other BBC One stuff.

For the regularly scheduled episodes of Gavin & Stacey (before the Xmas rise), about 23% of its audience was in the 16-34 demo. So about 1.3m for those 4 episodes. It was one of the youngest skewing (%-wise) scripted programmes on BBC1 last year. The only others I can think of around 23% were EastEnders and at a guess Waterloo Road .

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't see it: On the radio this morning Chris Evans said the papers were predicting the best Dr Who ratings ever for the new episode on Saturday - can anyone tell me what they'd have to get to be the best ever, presuming they mean the new Who? Actually, I think it is. And that's the problem with it. Dull, over-arching story about a blackout with tons of pointless fluff crammed in the middle.

And Material Girl 24%, think that was the highest of either BBC1 or ITV1 according to the tables yesterday.

Cool. Everyone's got different tastes. It's probably worth highlighting though that 1.5m still makes it more popular than a bunch of other US dramas airing over here including Lost, Desperate Housewives, The Good Wife and 24.

Desperate Housewives and Lost are both into their sixth seasons as well so probably not a fair comparison. When they both launched they were averaging three or four times as much as they are now.

I still think DH and Lost are fair comparisons though - since FF is being derided for losing viewers, these two are fair game as well.

When those shows started out they had a lot less competition and the TV landscape was very different, so it would be more unfair to compare the first seasons.

Desperate Housewives was back up to 700,000 for E4 this Sunday though - it's highest in some time I think.


No benefit at all in moving Glee from E4 to C4. E4 viewers aren't as stupid as BBC viewers - they'll find the show on E4, indeed easier than on C4, and I'm certain they'd hardly be any boost in viewing figures with a promotion to C4.

The current strategy is giving them 5m+ viewers across 4 viewings over the week, and E4 needs Glee a hell of a lot more than C4 do. Indeed it would create nothing but headaches for C4 schedulers IMO and in the long run would do the show much more damage than good.

True but they've lost viewers over a six-year period (and Lost was moved to a minority channel halfway through) not a six-month one.

I certainly wouldn't expect FF to be averaging what they were averaging in 2005, but nevertheless it's struggled to hold on to its launch audience. That's no fault of Five - they've treated it as well as anyone could have hoped - but with its falling ratings in the US it's more indicative of the quality of the show itself.

Most people have defended MSO on the basis of its quality, its performance with 16-34s, the fact it has held on to its audience since the second episode and the high audience appreciation levels its achieved (according to rzt).

Yes it did lose a great deal of its launch audience and that's nothing to be commended. The first episode was a bit naff and the following week it faced tough competition on BBC One.

But I don't think FlashForward has anything going for it whereas I do think MSO has heaps of potential and the feedback has been largely positive.

Which television channel does best with the C2DE demographic? We hear a lot about ABC1s and 16-34s but what about the C2DEs,who still make up about half of the population. I would possibly say ITV1, as this was always most popular with working class viewers, but possibly not.

It's called an opinion (not that it's relevant as they're two completely different shows).

Yes FlashForward has been sold worldwide - much like any other US drama that is funded by a US media conglomerate which can sell a show based on hype and hype alone ("the next Lost" etc).

It doesn't make it good. No mater how many OMGs or LOLs you choose to use.

And considering FlashForward is likely to be cancelled before the end of this season I don't think you have much to be LOLing about.

FlashForward is losing viewers by the bucketload both in the UK and the US and is going to be cancelled at the end of theseason. Married Single Other meanwhile, despite losing 2m from episodes 1 to 2, has found a very solid consistent audience. We're talking about in the UK here, and MSO got more than double the amount of viewers that FF got last night. Yes, MSO may also get axed, but creatively it has much more potential than the latest drawn out tosh coming from the US that was hyped as being the next big thing before crashing and burning.

Have to agree. These AI numbers only popup very rarely as well when an ITV1 programme does well, almost like they are coming from someone on the inside.

Any more likely to be cancelled than MSO? There can't be much in it I don't think.

The AI numbers are released every week for most terrestrial programmes and rzt must know where to get them from. I'm sure they're also released when an ITV1 programme does badly too, and the same for all the other channels. MSO's was mentioned simply because last week's score was exceptionally high.
