Whoa.
It's Mitch 123!Don't think you quite realised what you started, eh?! ![]() Whats particularly impressive about this thread is that we (mostly*) carry on debating ratings and ratings-related subjects. Most long-running threads tend to veer off into "what I've been doing today" after a while. * apart from when we spend entire posts complementing our thread, obviously. ![]() ![]() We do have a nice little community here actually. I tend not to think of it like that but we are all 'regulars' I suppose. |

Personally I think FIVE have made a huge mess up of the NCIS situation. It was steadily increasing last year where it ended up over 2.5m many weeks. Now it is going to be hard to keep increasing when it's up against stuff like Midsomer. Also Numb3rs is heavily down on last series where it reguarly was 1m+.
The Mentalist starts next Friday which will be interesting-personally I'd have started this next Monday and kept the film repeats on Friday. Even though The Mentalist may face some drama competition on Mondays, FlashForward was managing 2m+ reguarly up against ITV's big thrillers. NCIS is fine, it is still a solid performer and it is likely to be renewed for another season, the repeats still do excellently with 1.4-1.5m and I would like to see how it is doing on Five USA. If it can continue to get 2m+ then it is a success. |

Hope this programme on Channel 4, 'Leaving Home at 8' gets at least over 2m. I wonder also how many people will recognise that Silent Witness is a repeat? Considering last week SW had 5.7m against The Bill's 4m, The Bill this week should comfortably be near 4.5m. I would say it could 'win' its slot, but if memory serves me right, it has never won its timeslot since changing to 9pm.

Sorry, I'll just have to put a useless post on here as I always locate threads like these by looking at down the left hand column and seeing which ones I've posted in! It took me like five minutes to scan my eyes down to this!

Oh, Mitch123 - you started a trend which many people follow, you're the Michael Jackson, Twitter or the Alexander McQueen of the UK DS Ratings World
![]() I've been thinking back to those Superbowl ratings and wondering whether that's a sign that we can go back to the very high ratings that we've seen before. Also, does anyone think Friends got a boost this week? |

Thanks to Mitch 123 (and ronant!) for their work behind the thread.
![]() ----------------------------------------------------- Strong figures for Midsomer Murders last night. Channel 4 also performed well throughout the evening. NCIS was affected by the competition, but should improve up against the football. BBC1 had a reasonable night considering it was filler night. As for tonight, BBC1 have understandably not promoted Silent Witness as a repeat so I can see that winning the slot. The Bill should hold second and may gian through the hour as people realise that Silent Witness is a repeat and start flicking through the channels. |

Surely ASFF must be a repeat? Or was there one episode left over from the previous series? It must be a repeat surely, because ITV know it's capable to pull in 6m at the heart of primetime.
I'm guessing the extension of TMO was always planned, because it's the last episode. Though I must say ITV's schedule may get hit slightly that week with Let's Dance a stronger brand than SYTYCD. Though that too may get hit by Harry Hill. Also when are ITV going to ditch these stupid film repeats pulling in ~2m. Something like this Saturday (a repeat of Benidorm) would work much better and ITV have enough entertainment repeats which will pull in 3m+ on a weekly basis. I can't see Let's Dance doing as well as it did last time, when it launched against The Colour of Money with Robert Webb's legendary performance. I think it'll just get 5-6.5m this year, hitting 7m for the final, as it has tougher competition and won't have the novelty factor it had last year. TMO is set to be replaced by Push The Button on the 27th, and I think they'll have very high hopes for it. It all depends on scheduling of course, but I can see it becoming a big hit. |

ASFF is new as there are two episodes left over from the last series that were never shown. Very silly to waste them at 5.45pm though, as it could probably do better than Mr and Mrs in the later slot. I suppose it may help ITV get an audience locked in before Let's Dance starts to prevent it from becoming a massive hit like last time but it just seems a waste.

Talking of scheduling, looking ahead what are ITV going to do during Britain's Got Talent Finals week with the soaps? Same as last year I presume, but what did they do then? Was it/will it be something like: Monday 7.00 Emmerdale 7.30 Coronation Street 8.00 The Lakes (eg.) 8.30 Britain's Got Talent Tuesday 7.00 Emmerdale 7.30 The Krypton Factor (eg.) 8.00 Coronation Street 8.30 Britain's Got Talent Wednesday 7.00 Emmerdale 7.30 You've Been Framed (eg.) 8.00 Coronation Street 8.30 Britain's Got Talent Thursday 7.00 Emmerdale 7.30 Tonight 8.00 Emmerdale 8.30 Britain's Got Talent Friday 7.00 Emmerdale 7.30 Coronation Street 8.00 Countrywise (eg.) 8.30 Coronation Street 9.00 Britain's Got Talent

I've been thinking back to those Superbowl ratings and wondering whether that's a sign that we can go back to the very high ratings that we've seen before.
Proportionately, it was like an average of 21.2m over 4 hours. If England can put together a decent run in the world cup, that number could well be passed. Certainly England in the WC Final would be higher. One thing which won't be replicated is the size of the gulf between the Superbowl and the next highest rated programme of the year (300% higher). But that's more to do with he structure of US television and the lower ratings that it's regular programming gets when compared proportionately to ours. (Although Amanda Holden's Fantasy Lives might indicate otherwise!) However, we're not going to see the very high ratings of the past returning for regular programming which will continue to decline as it has in the US. How fast depends on how quickly DVR use increases and digital channel investment. The big audiences will only remain for the big events. |

I don't think those kinds of ratings have ever been lost. Events will always draw large numbers. The Superbowl is as big as it gets in the US, there's no "World Cup" every 4 years where it's USA vs... and the entire nation can get behind the team (although I suppose 10% of the UK will be supporting whoever the other team is!).

I'd double up on the Corrie on the Wednesday and bring BGT forward to 8.30pm on the Friday. The Monday edition however usually begins at 9pm due to it being a bank holiday.

Channel 4’s first live interactive web show drew 42,000 viewers this week – putting it almost on a par with UKTV’s Watch.
In the opening ten minutes, this figure was in line with Watch, which had 44,700 people watching Dalzeil and Pascoe. From Broadcast From Broadcast Mag today: Embarrasing Bodies has gone down well with females which makes up 66% of its audience. 40% increase in its slot. The C1 and C2 demos also like it making up52.9% of the audience. |

BBC sheduling idiocity alert. On Wednesday nights Mad Men will be on BBC4 10-10.50 with Damages on BBC1 from 10.45 (when the lottery finishes). So unless they manage to coincide the end of mad men with the start of Damages the start of damages will be missed. Why schedule the 2 best American imports like this?

Boarding school and The Bill do well By Kate McMahon
Channel 4 boarding school doc Leaving Home at Eight was watched by 2.1m last night, but The Bill was top dog at 9pm for the first time in 2010 http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/rating...010754.article Tabloid darling Katie Price proved to be ratings dynamite for ITV2 last night, with 1.6m tuning in for the premiere of her latest series – three times the audience of BBC3’s new reality series Dancing on Wheels |

The Bill was the top rated programme at 9pm though, with 4m (16.8%) tuning in across the hour.
again from broadcast.ok so 4 million is not especially high, 17% isnt either, there has been 17-20% last year. So really the Bill won the slot due to poor competition. |
