Any idea though how 'Helping Haiti' gets in ITV's top 30... I thought programmes 5 minutes long are excluded from the top 30?

not sure, I know loads of digital channel with 5 min progs are excluded

maybe the rule doesn't apply to 'terrestrial' channels

or maybe it's an error and I'll have to reload the figures again

The "Hero" video premiered in 2008 on ITV1 and made the top 30 as well, IIRC.

Programes that are 'less than 5 minutes' are excluded. Helping Haiti was 6 minutes.

Considering the commentary team talked about fusing reality and trickery I was expecting a kind of virtual cauldron to be lit in the stadium, lighting the outdoor cauldron which would be projected on something indoors. Wouldn't have been lighting the flame directly, but would have been much better and no worse than Torino four years ago where a metal loop was lit to set off fireworks which culminated in the cauldron coming alight.

For those of you interested in such things London's cauldron will be outside of the stadia, meaning a bit of clever thinking will be needed in terms of lighting it - and concealing it until the opening ceremony.

CBS:
8pm – The Amazing Race – 9.1m (2.8)
9pm – Undercover Boss – 15.3m (5.1)
10pm – Cold Case – 8.7m (2.1)

FOX:
8pm – The Simpsons – 5.9m (2.6)
8.30pm – The Cleveland Show – 4.9m (2.3)
9pm – Family Guy – 6.4m (3.2)
9.30pm – American Dad – 5.2m (2.5)

NBC:
7pm – Winter Olympics – 26.3m (7.0)

Tvbythenumbers

ABC didn't air any scripted programmes last night, just 2 hours of America's Funniest Home Videos and 2 hours of Extreme Makeover.

FOX comedies took a hit opposite the Olympics. Undercover Boss did pretty well and increased through its hour from 4.7 in the first half to 5.5 in the second. Obviously well down from the 38m after the Superbowl, but not too bad.

Yep, after the opening official rating of 1.61m, it's been fairly steady at 1.2m thereafter. It'll be v.interesting to get the iPlayer stats, hopefully in a week or so...

I think with BBC3 especially viewers might tune in "live" to the first episode, but then for subsequent episodes find that a repeat is scheduled better for them or simply record it.

Talking of BBC3, how did the premiere of Last Woman Standing do last week, and how did it compare to Last Man Standing, especially demographic wise. I know I had no interest in watching this version having watched the first two series and Tough Guy or Chicken.

Excellent ratings for Come Dine with Me on More4, undoubtedly one of the most important shows for C4 as it's cheap and rates really well even for repeats. Five also had a good evening (compared to normal) with both movies close to the 2m mark.

BBC1's Sunday lineup, particularly 6-9pm, is providing a very strong alternative to ITV1's, with Lark Rise to Candelford basically static at 6.3m every single week. Seven Ages, although not a banker, improved week-on-week and is rating pretty well for a show of this type. Dancing on Ice and Wild at Heart rated as expected but I think that's quite a poor rating for Life Stories. It's not Piers' fault- the figures always fluctuate depending on the guest and although Gordon Brown isn't exactly the most interesting person, I thought all the news coverage would help tip it over the 5m mark.

Very healthy figure for the Got To Dance final - a recommission should be a cert. Shame it's not on terrestrial TV where it'd have probably rated well.

Edit: on reflection, the Life Stories rating isn't too poor considering its timeslot and that a lot of the content had already been shown on the news. But it's still under what I expected!

Going to look pretty impressive. I think the Opening Ceremony should be pretty cool in London. I do have concerns about security and limiting the numbers in the park though. I would have liked it better if they could just open it right up and have it crammed full of people for a big party.

Maybe it's in the name of political balance. A Labour politician on ITV1 and a (former) Conservative politician on BBC1.

I'm not sure they'd be much better in the overnights at least if C4 had kept the rights.

Wonder how long Sky now have the rights tied up for, because I think there would be value in the repeat rights to season 3 to 6 if C4 could pick them up cheap for probably More4.

EastEnders is trending in Top 10 Worldwide on Twitter.

Not surprised. It's the only soap that trends. Not that it means anything. I see they have a special EastEnders BBC One ident. Surely they're going to use that more than 4 times. It sort of makes up for the lack of a decent trailer.

Yeah EastEnders is the only soap too and i guess it shows people are talking about it.At work it got bought up a few times when we heard the Radio1 advert.
It was nice to see the ident but i wonder if they will so a different one each day and have the suspects in one all day friday

I expect massive ratings if they've done a special ident, last programme to get a BBC1 ident was Doctor Who....

Yeah and that did fantastically well. Most watched show of 2010 so far, well if you count HD viewers. Otherwise that honour goes to EastEnders.

Piss poor for Piers, and for Gordo.

That should have been a dead cert 5-6m banker with all the hype. It's an interview with our sitting PM, ffs!

Albeit the most despised one in our history.

More embarrassment for ITV re the football. I know the draw hasn't been too friendly for them, but this weekend's ratings were terrible, even by their standards.

The FA must surely be getting alarmed. Particularly as they've been here before and saw the FA Cup nearly die a decade ago.

They will be as spitting mad as GeorgeS when the Carling Cup Final outrates the FA Cup Final. That might just be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Tanking on Ice still tanking I see. Even Holly's astonishing presenting skills aren't enough to draw in the viewers.

(Well that's one way of describing them...)

Originally Posted by sally k:

A big loss for ITV indeed - they had to lose the lucrative ABC1 male-friendly F1 coverage to help pay for it!

Still, as an F1 fan, I'm not complaining...

Ridiculous to include a pop video as one of the top TV "programmes" of the week/year. It was NOT a programme.

I imagine ITV might start slotting pop videos in the schedule more often if BARB are going to start counting them as "programmes".

Why not start publishing the ratings for a commercial break counting it as a "programme"?

FFS!

Mike - any chance you can input some top 50s instead of the top 30s?

[EDIT: Oh, and just for a laugh, can you put 10.27m down for one episode of The One Show next week? Just for laugh, nobody will notice. But keep it quiet from GeorgeS, eh, don't want to spoil the fun next Monday...]
