Very much so, did the rest of the post not give it away?
![]() Massively hyped soap gets good rating on a cold and for some snowy night with a storyline that has been everywhere since Santa popped down the chimney! Eastenders now declared best soap ever, Emmy nominations for all the cast for doing so well for remembering their lines and where to walk! Amazing! Well done luvvies and Diedrick Santer to be poached by HBO to make a massive new drama series starring whichever massively successful ex-Eastender hasn't ended up in a police or hospital drama |

It was interesting watching an episode of Eastenders for the first time in years and it reminded me why I gave up on the show. It was just loads of really unpleasant people that I didn't want to spend any time with. The only people I liked were the ones on the video tape.

:Re: The AftermathUnbelieveable. 4.3million. Second half of the show won it's slot against all the terrestrials.
I think My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding has now been overtaken as the ratings shock of the year, but back to that and discussions are underway for a spin-off following it's success. Quote:
Just shows the promotional power of the BBC across all its outlets what with the endless "duff duffs", and in the end the show went off well considering it could have been a disaster.

That's an astounding rating for Eastenders considering there was no build up or mini ad's or hype around it months before on the part of the BBC!
I didn't even know Eastenders was 25, I was wondering why the EE bandwagon was continuing with a primetime Weakest Link Special tonight with the EE cast...I thought it was just lazy dumbed down scheduling! ![]() Quote:
DS have put up the soap ratings article here:

Going by the number of people who I know that watched the show last night, despite not having seen it for years, that figure isn't completely astounding. I watched, not having a clue what was going on, but still it still had me gripped. It was a very well executed episodes in the traditional "Who dunnit?" vein.

Excellent results for EE. Many people tuned in just because it was live, and so had an element of jeopardy. There is a greater appetite for live drama - it's real and less polished although probably prohibitively expensive.
I hadn't a clue who anyone was or what they had done. I was no wiser by the end. I enjoyed watching live TV but I won't be tuning in to EE again.

Any news on an absolute peak yet (ie, not just the 5 min peak)?

I wonder what the peak was for that BBC3 programme, the ones who tuned in for a few minutes to see the immediate reactions.

Fantastic ratings for Eastenders and for the aftermath on BBC Three but it looks like Channel 4 and Five held really well with both Embarassing Bodies and The Mentalist. It would be interesting to see the breakdown,
Masterchef did poorly against the competition and I think it will settle for 4m+ but it is looking like a mistake transferring it to BBC One whereas the ratings would have been great for BBC Two. |

Eastenders had a higher average share than the 2009 X-Factor final did. And without mass front-page tabloid coverage.
I reckon it will take 3rd place for this year behind BGT and the World Cup. |

That figure for EastEnders is outstanding. No way did I think it would do that well. I never thought it would do better than the X Factor final
I thought that would have been impossible for EastEnders. It will take a long while before a multichannel show beats that aftermath show rating. |

Wow, stunning, stunning rating for EastEnders. Mindblowingly impressive, especially for a Friday night.
I tuned in (don't usually watch) and thought the episode was a commendable achievement given the logistics of it all. The BBC Three rating is also just unbelievable. I'm very happy for EastEnders - they really have made an effort to keep the storyline a secret, turning it into event TV! As for Corrie, in a live web chat with the (very dire) current producer, somebody asked about plans for the 50th. The producer confirmed no live episode was planned (as that was done for the 40th) but there would be a big storyline. Frankly, I don't think she has it in her to even nearly match what we saw last night. Moreover, the BBC should be commended for their consistent scheduling of their programme, never deviating in the face of pathetic Emmerdale clashes. It's sticked to its slots. ITV have chucked their soaps about like sweets and this has upset viewers. The current Mon x2, Thu, Fri x2 system is just appalling, not that it will change before the show turns half a century old |

OMG totally stunned by EE ratings, that has to be one of the most unforeseen ratings ever. I genuinely thought over 13 would have been excellent, but over 15
It's only a soap, mind I did watch it myself having not watched EE in years apart from Thursday and Friday, and I found it really exciting. The after show was good too, I never knew Larry Lamb was Georges Dad, Higher than TXF final, unbelievable. And wow for aftermath show too, that's incredible.

Outstanding Rating from EastEnders
Beating it's last record of the most watched Scripted show and now the BBC 3 Aftermath show getting a massive 4+M is just amazing. I thought 12.6m as a peak/13 at a push and the aftermath atleast 1.5m but im really amazed. |

I'm just stunned by those numbers.
I thought I was being conservative, estimating in the 12 millions, the 13 millions wouldn't have surprised me - but 15 million is mind-blowing.And thats not the most shocking rating of the night - over 4m for the BBC Three aftermath show. Thats just on a different planet to any mutichannel show ever! BBC Three must have easily had its best ever night - people even tuned in for the Weakest Link. ![]() Credit to the BBC and the people at EastEnders who've managed to capture public attention with this anniversary, storyline and live episode in a way that I honestly thought was now beyond scripted TV. Considering the decline in average viewership over the past decade, to post the highest numbers in 5 or more years is a fabulous achievement. With the trends of TV continuing as they are, I don't think it would be an overstatement to say that I doubt any episode of EastEnders will hit those heights again. ITV must be scrambling to do something big with Corrie, because the planning seems very understated at the moment. They'll look silly if they can't pull out the stops for a Golden Anniversary in the way EE has for its Silver. |

Well dont expect a Corrie live episode, according to the producer live episodes pull the audience out of the drama. An argument which was blown out of the water by EastEnders doing their most dramatic episode in recent memory live with a nice twist at the end, enough to surprise the audience, but also, like all good murder mysteries, it seemed the most obvious in retrospect.

It's interesting that they chose to premiere the Weakest Link on BBC3 but a good idea. 2m is fantastic for it. I wonder how it will do on BBC1 this evening.

I don't understand why the Coronation St producer is ruling out a live episode. If it's been ten years since the last one, they could hardly be accused of overdoing it.
Yes, it costs more, but being a little bit "careful" with the annual budget over the rest of the year, easily makes up for that. A wonderful audience figure for EastEnders last night. I suppose it could be beaten if England get past the first round of the football World Cup, but pre and post-match analysis should hold the official figures below 15m in the first round. And the Talent results could beat it if they're left at 30 minutes this year. |

Ahh Without A Trace, i knew it was some type of CSI-Like show. Amazing for Bionic Woman, considering it was axed months later. The figure for Friends is amazing, keeping the record for 10 years despite multichannel exploding after 2002. Surely almost everyone with Sky must have seen that? Wasn't even the finale was it?
Is this correct? |

I thought that would have been impossible for EastEnders.
