Excellent ratings for EE, I suppose it was always going to be high if they could even get me watching! (and I don't think I've watched since Who Shot Phil?) I think the live show element will have hooked in people who had never really watched it while the 25 year anniversary will have hooked in many of those who had watched over the years. It's also pretty clear that they have been building this storyline for months and with all the hype it was a perfect build-up.

Without a live element, I'm not sure how Corrie can beat it. Which raises the possibility that last nights rating will never be passed by a soap. And even if they do a live episode, it probably won't work so well considering EE did it just a few months before.

I'd guess EE will hold onto some of those viewers for a few weeks. Corrie may need to accept 2nd place until it starts building towards its big anniversary.

Well there is a BGMT show in there...

But no, you're right in saying there's no TXF show in there and yes, it is correct.

What was the storyline for Coronation St's 40th birthday? Someone said it was Mike Baldwin's death, but I'm sure he died a few years after that.

There are, it is said, three certainties in life - death, taxes and ITV copying anything that is a success on BBC1.

There's more chance of me appearing in Coronation Street than ITV bosses not looking at last night's figures and thinking "we'll have a bit of that please".

By October, it'll be endless "Corrie 50th" trailers and "show us your wah-wahs" as part of the build-up to the live 50th show...

Yes, it costs more, but being a little bit "careful" with the annual budget over the rest of the year, easily makes up for that.

A wonderful audience figure for EastEnders last night. I suppose it could be beaten if England get past the first round of the football World Cup, but pre and post-match analysis should hold the official figures below 15m in the first round.

And the Talent results could beat it if they're left at 30 minutes this year.”

All that could change after last night's figures and when the new producer of Corrie takes over later in the year. However, the reason EastEnders did so well was it had a fantastic storyline which justiced a live episode - to keep the killer identity secret. Now if corrie said it was doing a live episode they will have to be a reason why?

I think it was The One After Vegas, but I'm not 100% sure. If it was that would be the one where they resolved the previous season's cliffhanger of Monica/Chandler going to get married and Ross/Rachel actually getting married.

I'm an EastEnders fan, so kidneys are a sore subject.

Sorry, Xtra Factor does make the list in joint 8th place with 2.52m for its 8/11/09 episode. The rest is correct .

They wont do one, they'll be accused of copying...especially ust a few months later.

When is Corries 50th? Does it seem to be gearing towards anything?

But if any Corrie producer is reading, and wants to take me up on this, can I feature in a long-running love triangle storyline with Rosie Webster and Tina please?

The last time the reason why was that they wanted to pay homage to the first live episodes, which they did do. The opening scene was similar to the opening scene of the first episode for example.

Interestingly Coronation Street had the sunset issue to deal with within their hour. The first half of the episode was set at dawn and the second half at dusk.

Bloody amazing ratings for ee, I never thought a soap would get those type of figures again.
I thought it would get 12m,

Completely agree, the fact I knew it was live even made me more tense

When Coronation Street did its live episode in 2000 it was watched by 16.68 million, which was 3 million up on what the Friday episode would normal rate.

The storyline was save the street's cobble, it was a hour long and went out at 8pm on the Friday evening.

Incredible ratings for EastEnders and the BBC Three show. I didn't see either of those figures coming!

Interesting point. Maybe they just did that for the story then. I always assumed the sunlight had forced them into it. I remember the start of the episode was definitely set in the morning and the end at night.

Just googled, it aired on 8th December 2000. Prince Charles featured in a pre-recorded "news bulletin" shown on a TV during the episode.
