I doubt the story is actually as big as the media have made out. I think Chiles may be replaced for a short while because he will be working on the spin-off The Ten Show and that would mean he would miss the Friday episode and Chris Evans is a possible short-term replacement but I dont think there are any plans to replace him permanently.

It'd make no sense to make it permanent really - unless Christine was dropped as well and they did a 'Holly and Phil' by only getting them to do four days a week.

The Ten Show? I hadn't heard about this, what is it?

Thanks. I haven't got a Braodcast subscription - is it going to be on BBC2/3/4? Guess it's a bit like a News Forum from that opening sentence.

I don't think Adrian is overreacting there at all. I think I would probably quit too.

He got offered a huge ITV contract, lots more money for lots less work and turned it down out of loyalty. Some way to repay him, even if it is 18 months down the line.

As for Chris Hollins - what are they thinking? I hope that's not true.

Splitting up Adrian and Christine makes no sense.

This is what it says:

"The BBC is planning a late-night spin-off of The One Show in which Adrian Chiles will chair a debate about the stories behind the week’s headlines.

Chiles is preparing to front a pilot of The Ten Show, in which he will be joined by a team of special guests to discuss three of the week’s big stories. The show aims to tackle politics and celebrity in a light-hearted and opinionated way.

The BBC is understood to be looking at a 10pm slot on BBC2, where Chiles has previously chaired The Apprentice: You’re Fired.

Chiles will do two run-throughs of the show over the next two weeks and will record the pilot at Hammersmith Studios on 7 November".

Going back to the Eastenders ratings, I think it says a lot for the loyalty of the Eastenders audience that 4.3m of the 15m average decided to tune in to the BBC3 show despite Corrie being on the other side for the first 30 mins. Yet, of the 18m watching Britain's Got Talent and 16.5m watching the X Factor their spin-offs shows only got 2.5m.

Thanks.

So it sounds like it'll be just a one night a week thing - I'd say Thursday would be the best night as that would be followed by Question Time and This Week on BBC1. Then again, Thursday nights are comedy nights on BBC2 so the genres wouldn't really match.

Im not sure whether its even been commisioned or not but last I heard was Chiles involvement in the new show would mean him cutting back on The One Show presenting which is where some journalist has started the story from.

STV opt-outs this week:

Married, Single, Other replaced by Underbelly, an Australian thriller. (STV opting out of network drama to bring its audience more local programming.)

Michael Winner's Dining Stars replaced by Amanda Holden's fantasy Lives. Note: This is new to STV. It's not a quick repeat due to popular demand.

Meanwhile one paper reports "ITV's plans for Coronation Street's 50th birthday":

Two live episodes. (How old are these producers, twelve? "You had one live episode, but we're going to have two so yah-boo-sucks to you!")

The return of old favourites such as Hilda Ogden, Mavis Wilton, Curly Watts and Tracy Barlow.

And a big storyline that will blow Eastenders whodunnit out of the water. (Ah, I love television spin. I can well imagine these programme spokespersons having an orgasm every time they tell the press about how the new series will be bigger and better than even before. "Viewers will be stunned/shocked/blown out the water/rivetted.")

A big story that involves every living ex-resident from the past 50 years turning up in a big coach. I sense another "threatening to tar over the cobbles" storyline.

Two live episodes? Surely 1 live episode is hard enough?

Oh dear, they can't think of their own way to celebrate Corrie's 50th anniversary so they have to blatantly copy what EE has done. I find this strange because Corrie's exec producer said in an interview that she is against live episodes because they detract from the drama . This story probably tabloid tittle-tattle.

EE showed on Friday that you need a strong storyline, script, characters, actors and production team to make it work, but the quality of CS has been poor for the past few years so I doubt their anniversary celebrations will have the same huge impact. Good luck to them anyway whatever it is they do.

When you say 'one paper', which paper? Is it The People or the Daily Star Sunday?

Re Amy Williams, the Sunday Times today quotes a BBC spokesman who said 1.3m were watching BBC2 at 1.30am as she won gold.

I'd be very surprised if either Mavis or Hilda return to Corrie. The actresses have been very vocal about how poor the show is since leaving. And both are in their 80s so I'm not sure they could still cope with the demands of a soap especially one that is seemingly never off-air these days.

I just can't see the 50th getting as much hype as EE's 25th (honestly! putting my bias aside ) because i'm not saying its ONLY old people that watch but it is mostly, has that older audience if you get me. Teenagers were all discussing it, at school, people on the buses etc (EE). Dunno but i just can't see it really

20:35 - Casualty: 6.14m (25.1%)
21:25 - The Weakest Link: 4.43m (19.3%)
22:20 - BBC News: 5.32m (25.7%)

ITV1

19:00 - Harry Hill's TV Burp: 5.28m (22.2%)

Thanks to MattJ for the ratings

Looks like a BBC One whitewash, with the main primetime programmes over 6 million from 18:30 to 21:25. It did however falter either side of it - due to stupid scheduling. Weakest Link should have been on before LDFSR, with the rest of the schedule 55 minutes later than scheduled.

ITV did OK, but it seems like TV Burp was dented - I suspect those that are not watching on Saturday's are now watching on Sunday now that they know that there is a repeat on.

The 40th anniversary live episode was 1 hour long. Two live episodes would probably be two half-hour episodes like we get on a Monday and Friday (although Corrie's birthday is a Thursday when they only have 1 episode)

It was indeed The People, the poor man's Sunday Mirror.

Good night for BBC1, with In It To Win It getting its highest rating of the series and Casualty getting one of its highest as well. Let's Dance was half a million down from last year's opener but that's okay as it faced mega-flop 'The Colour of Money' last year while yesterday the competition was tougher.

First of all regarding EE, I think after that rating nothing will shock me on this thread anymore! Phenomenal performance and well deserved after all the hard work Santer has put in over the years. Also 4.3m for effectively a spin off show is fantastic, puts into perspective really that after 16m for BGT/XF only 2m are tuning in afterwards.

Looking at last night I expected TV Burp to be dented with tougher competition, but nothing to worry about with the Sunday repeat averaging out the viewers.

Great finish for TMO considering the length and the fact the lottery put in a series high. I think a recomission is very likely now. Also M&M is performing much better than I thought putting in a solid 4.5-5m every week. TV Burp and M&M should get a boost aswell next week from Ant & Dec's new show.

Solid night for BBC1. Casualty back over 6m and excellent for the lottery to be the top show of the day. Caught some of Lets Dance on Youtube later last night and found some great performances and I can see why it does so well.
