Perhaps. I was one of those advocating it in pure ratings terms this year, but I can understand why ITV didn't. I think the ratings decline makes it even less likely. Unless they simply recorded the results on Sat as Strictly did (an imperfect solution) then they won't want to increase spending on the show to fund two nights. Its overall numbers, and particularly its demographics, just wouldn't make it as worthwhile as it is for TXF. Also, I do wonder how badly WAH might start to sink if it lost the sandwich.

Many thanks! Looks legit as the ITV2 rating in the same article is correct. I can update the DSRPG now.

The teatime quiz always used to be a traditional part of the Saturday schedules. There's no way Family Fortunes deserves to be the centrepiece of the night, it's flimsy old Family Fortunes.”

Just as some shows are clearly post-watershed, some are clearly pre-watershed too and should stay there. Family Fortunes though has always moved around the schedules - it did in the Les Dennis era have a rather regular time of 8.15pm, but before and since then has aired anytime from 5.30pm onwards really. I do think ITV would be wise too to ditch the All Star editions and film a load of half-hour regular editions which I suspect would do quite well in early-peak on Saturdays, and also be very good fillers in other slots (e.g. Wed 7.30pm) too.

“When I was younger I used to really look forward to reaching the age when I'd be able to stay up late and watch adult programming. Now I am allowed to stay up late it's the same stuff I used to watch at teatime.”

Not sure how late you're talking but it's a real shame that unashamedly truly trashy pointless (though actually often quite innocent!) late night TV is pretty much a thing of the past, especially when you consider the audience for ITV/C4 post-midnight is probably no smaller than some of their digital off-shoots in primetime. And of course just like kids TV it was a breeding ground for new TV talent too - Graham Norton, Tess Daly, Davina McCall and Claudia Winkleman all got their big breaks after midnight!

Nowadays instead of truly trashy pointless TV after midnight you just get Loose Women!

FFS, I've just seen that The Secret Millionaire is back next Monday. It's a good show but it's only been about three months since the last run ended, and since then we've had a Christmas special and the Slumdog edition. In turn, the ratings have fallen from 4m in 2008 to 2.5m for recent editions. Why do C4 find it impossible to stick to one series a year for it instead of overkill? In a Monday slot, where C4 always struggle, I can see it struggling to top 2m. How stupid.

George S doesnt appear to have put in an appearance yet. The Eastenders hangover must be a particularly difficult one.

EastEnders is trending worldwide on Twitter again - although I do find the description rather funny:

Quote:
“People are tweeting about the 25th anniversary episode of this British soap opera, which played out live on air last week and is currently being rebroadcast (Feb. 22).”

Hope it gets 11/12m tonight though...

You know somebody has died in EastEnders when the episode description reads "Whilst the Square comes to terms with recent events..."

If EastEnders is trending On Twitter then I'm sure it will get at least over 11m.

Tell that to the producers of Take Me Out.

Silent Witness had a massive boost to a great average of 7.46m, which is up 1.1m or 11.7% from the last series in 2008. Again, the snow helped in the early stages but even after that, no episode fell below the average for the last series. Seems like it prospered on Thurs/Fri with weak opposition from The Bill and PSTOS.

Also, finished in January but I'm not sure if anyone mentioned, Wallander ended with an average of 5.72m for its 3 epsiodes, down 0.31m on the 2008 series.

With Lark Rise doing well too, looks like January's 'drama overload' worked out OK - though Survivors and (predictably) Material Girl flopped.”

BBC1 appears to have made a far stronger start to the year than last JAN/FEB, figures like these will presumably see all of the above returning-and quite rightly so.
All I have followed Survivors I always get the feeling it should have been a one off as the first episode was pretty powerful, or maybe a two parter.

Well to be fair I don't think you should be running the show down as you were the one who scoffingly said the live ep would get 18m, in reality it was less than 3m off that (most of the ep being less than 2m off it) and probably did get 18m with aggregated viewers taken into account across all platforms.

It's great though how it's the only soap that trends.

I suspect GeorgeS is still swallowing the pill of Friday's ratings. Oh the joy!

Some really impressive timeshifts again for BBC1's top shows - Casualty, Roadshow, Lark Rise, Holby, Hustle, Countryfile.

I'm sure this is down to the new system more accurately recording BBC1's audiences. Can they go back and recalculate the last 8 years?

at Tanking on Ice. Crikey, it really is sinking.

Abandon ship, abandon ship!!

A drop of 1.3m/1.4m year on year is terrible news for ITV.

And Wild at Heart really is boring people into flipping channels now.

BBC1 is really reaping the benefits of viewers' 'mushed cabbage fatigue', as they seek out more nourishing and challenging fare on the other side. I wonder how the head-to-heads are for Countryfile vs ToI and AR vs ToI? I'll wager ToI isn't pulling greatly ahead until 8pm.

01.00m [BBC iPlayer] *guesstimate

If you add in the timeshift, and bear in mind that the 14.91m includes the 3 minutes after EE went off air and viewers switched to ITV1, that total should easily nudge past 20m.

Don't goad him. He'll just be even more insufferable when the next instalment of Cowell-fest returns to our screens...

Unless it also tanks, ToI-style.

BTW, nothing much to enthuse about in Married Single Other.

Hardly ground-breaking new drama is it?

I might have to put Old Tricks on in a minute...

However, the excitement continues to build re Michael Winner's Dining Stars - I see Charlie Brooker (of all people!) is the latest to rave about it. Sort of.

I can't wait. It could be the first "good" new thing on ITV in years. And with the rugby as competition, it could get a good strong 5m+ to start with too!

But plenty of people are missing Tanking on Ice this year, it seems...

Have you seen Friday's ratings yet, George?

Trending means the correct type of demographic.

The Cowell fests will be down on last year as I'm sure you will enjoy. Susan Boyle was a worldwide sensation, you can't get any bigger than that.

Reckon this will be another flop for them unfortunately. Didn't think it was that bad though.

If it is a flop, ITV will be right back into the crime drama genre as it's the only thing that seems to work

I do also find it odd that BBC1 are showing a repeat on a Monday in Winter, what are they actually spending their money on that they don't have new drama to show in winter?

Is it worth a watch on the ITV player later?

Even if it flops ITV deserve some credit for making a drama that doesnt feature police and murders.

Married, Single, Other is now trending on Twitter, New Tricks surprisingly isn't!

That's my main fear. The crime genre is oversaturated now but unfortunately it's the only thing that seems to pull in viewers for them.

Yeah, like I said it was watchable. But then again it's not something I'd go out of my way to catch.

Most people seem to have liked it on Twitter. Funnily enough most people on DS hated it.

Well the way Cowell is talking about taking The X Factor to America might suggest it's coming to its end here now, what with Danni Minogue being pregnant and Cheryl Cole talking about leaving the country. For all this would be a daring and controversial move to finish it, remember it's a talent contest and there were no protests in Trafalgar Square when Pop Idol was ditched as its fans aren't as obsessive in the way some soap or reality fans are.
