The format's the same as last year just with the pointless X Factor weeks eliminated and, of course, a different song author. It would be stupid to keep ALW. Judging by the quality of the entries selected so far by other countries, the UK has a pretty good chance at being near the top again.

The Criminal Minds project seems to be the most likely, they just got Forest Whitaker on board which is quite a coup considering he won an Oscar for Best Actor just 3 years ago.

I suppose they might handle it like they did NCIS:LA and shift Criminal Minds to 8pm (getting rid of the comedies) and put the new one in at 9pm. It's just so lazy, though. 3 franchises accounting for 7 hours of their schedule. But it works for them.

The comedy slate is pretty competitive. Chuck Lorre has a pilot as do the creators of How I Met Your Mother. Accidentally On Purpose didn't fit in well and lost too much of the 18-34 lead-in (even if it did OK with the 18-49's) so I guess they'll look to find something quite young. Rules of Engagement will suffer from a similar problem as it goes more towards the upper end of the 18-49 range.

Criminal Minds isn't 8pm material, NCIS works at 8pm because it is quite light and not that gory. I think Criminal Minds spin-off is likely to go to Tuesdays at 9pm moving NCIS: LA to another day like Wednesday or Sunday or Wednesdays at 10pm with CSI: NY moving to Sundays.

11.9% share makes it the joint worst primetime share for ITV1 (excluding foreign football nights) since at least October 2008 - possibly ever! Excellent 9pm ratings for C4 and Five.

Incidentally, when's the last time ITV1 had a panel show? They're piloting a new comedy panel show called 'They Drink It In The Congo' which will be presented by Paddy McGuinness. Team captains are Rod Gilbert and Sarah Millican, and comics & celebrities will join them to "take part in a light hearted quiz that celebrates all things funny from around the world".

As ITV's turning Friday 9pm into an "entertainment slot", I'm guessing that if it is picked up then it might go there.

ITV probably inspired by the current success of QI, taking 4m against Corrie. And HIGNFY is always good for 5m. Won't cost much to make and should attract a decent share of 16-34s.

The last one they had was News Knight with Trevor McDonald which bombed spectacularly in Summer 2007. This one doesn't sound too bad though and they've got some decent names involved. The Friday slot does seem a cert but I wonder if it'll be 30 or 60 minutes, and if it does get picked up, when it'll air. I'm guessing it'll be 60 minutes (ITV don't seem to want 30 minute shows any more) and air in the Summer but really it could air at any time of year.

When are Paul O'Grady's show, 71 Degrees North and The Door set to air? The former two have the potential to do well (The Door has flop written all over it) and are also probably set for the Friday 9pm slot.

Monday night is new tricks repeat and thursday is Cars, Cops and Criminals.

It's proof once again that good imports can still rate well on terrestrial TV. If ratings continue to hold up well for STV in the remaining 12 episodes, I wonder if ITV will see the figures and say "we'll have some of that" and maybe air it in the summer when they'll cutback on showing original British dramas (to save for better times in the year).


Paul O'Grady is starting in late August/September. On ITVMedia it says The Door is set to air in Q2 - maybe Friday nights before/after Marco's Kitchen Burnout.

I read an article about a week ago which said 71 Degrees North would air during the World Cup - not good scheduling imo. Couple of celebs confirmed for 71 Degrees North: Konnie Huq and Diarmuid Gavin. Shane Ritchie and Andrew Castle are rumoured to be taking part as well.

And what's more it was Holby City on BBC1 Scotland at that time rather than a New Tricks repeat. Though, I imagine Holby has no viewers at all north of the border as following that programme around the schedule up there must be more complicated than the Times crossword.

Maybe if the Aussie imports are going to do better than all the local programming they were supposedly dropping network drama for, STV should consider buying all the old episodes of Skippy. Or Sons And Daughters.

The Door seems like perfect fodder to be thrown on as filler during the World Cup, particularly with it only having 2 episodes. Paul O'Grady looks set for Autumn Fridays then, but I hope 71 Degrees North is given a decent slot rather than thrown against big football matches. It could just be that it's starting towards the end of the World Cup and will run through July and August (how many episodes is it?). I think it has potential and deserves a decent slot. That's not a bad line-up of celebs so far (in that I know who they all are) and Shane Richie would be quite a big name for something like this.

Regarding Underbelly, that's an excellent performance, and I think it'd be a great idea for ITV to run it during the Summer (far better than the usual flopzone stuff).

Underbelly though good probably wouldn't go down well at 9pm and would attract high 2 to low 3m, I think it would fare better at 10.35pm after the news. There is at least another two series of Underbelly which could be aired by STV and ITV,

That's what I initially thought as well before the ratings were released, but maybe Monday's figure suggests otherwise? I guess we'll have to wait and see how audience retention is in the next few episodes.
