Our cat is now gone to the great hunting ground in the sky.. but he caught some strange things.... including those mentioned above.. and I hated him catching birds but he also brought in bats and let them go while they were alive which really used to freak me out and he even had a go at grass snakes... oh and he brought in the occasional tick but maybe that doesnt really count...

no unfortunately these are the ones i can remember, there could be more, i have remembered since there was 1 time he brought in a live sparrow and i shouted at him so he legged it over the fence and i didnt see him for a few hours so i guess he did kill and eat it

i understand peoples concerns over the wildlife being killed like this. however, i think cars probably kill a hell of a lot more than pet cats getting up to no good. as ive said, once mr dudley is gone i wont be having another one, i cant deal with all the dead presents, i feel awful for letting him out but then again i feel its cruel to have a house cat unless they have been used to it from kittens and havent seen the outside world. even then im in 2 minds about house cats, most just adore the outside world.

My cat has only ever brings in moths or butterflies! And then she releases them in the house and goes nuts chasing them round!

She also chases bumble bees round the garden but luckily they always manage to escape her! Am just waiting for the day when she either eats one or gets stung by one!

The only think my Rosie has ever bought in is frogs. They come into our garden from a local pond, she brings them indoors very gently without harming them and then puts them down so they hop around the house
I think she just enjoys the mayhem it causes

I'm lucky really (well I think so anyway) in that only occasionally she goes out, but choses not leave the garden, and never chases any wildlife or brings any dead things home

My Impossible Princess brought in

snakes
mice
birds
water lily seed pods
slow worms
lizards
a kid's toy snake
bones of a pork chop
a dead bumblebee
butterflies
moths
crickets
frogs
spiders

Quite a lot of life in my garden when I think about it.

I'm pretty sure that's why our short haired monster brings them back alive. It's like the keystone cops for her, watching us catch the mouse

has only one conquest to her name, but she was VERY excited about it when she came in from the garden and it took me about ten minutes to take my life in my hands, corner her and remove it from her without getting severely injured.

The object of her desire?

A whole cooked sausage.....

Still, I suppose they don't run fast or try to fly away, which is just as well or she wouldn't have had a chance of catching it!”

I nearly died laughing reading this!!!

Well, my kitten is 8 months old but hasn't caught anything...yet Kinda hoping she doesn't. I'm terrified of rats/mice. Even the thought of them in the garden makes me want to stay inside. Right now she brings in leaves. She waits patiently for a bird to let her catch them..obviously never happens. she tries though, bless her.

Our cat is a bit of a freak

Moths the size of something you'd see in a Hannibal film
Mice of which I've saved many
Frogs of which I've also saved many (their screams are awful)
Birds many varied
2 Magpies 1 magpie that came at my patio door at 100mph flapping it's wings while he carried it by the scruff of the neck of which I managed to slide the patio door shut just in time and 1 magpie that he brought in, got bored with and left me to remove while it was panicking
3 Bats 1 died, one he took back out still alive and the other flew round my bedroom for over 2 hours while I screamed my head off trying to get it out without hurting it, cue everybody complaining we'd all probably wake up rabid the next morning.

I get a little bit wiser about all creatures after they've had a tour round my lounge or bedroom curtesy of the cat and I'm learning to handle wild creatures without harming them and placing them somewhere safe so something good comes out if it sometimes.

My thoughts exactly. Its really nothing to be proud of and should be discouraged. Domesticated cats do NOT need to kill. Help the wildlife and put a collar and at least 4 bells on it. I have that plus a dogs name barrel because its bigger than a cats on my crusty pants collar. He now brings nothing to me. He makes too much noise. SHOVE A NOISY COLLAR ON YOUR MOGGY FGS

and another thing keep your cat in at dusk and dawn. Be a responsible owner. Obviously it won't stop all kills but it'll help.

I thought the cat police would turn up on this thread eventually. I don't think the population of cats in the uk really has much of an impact on wildlife really, perhaps if we all kept our cats locked up at night, the population of wildlife may flourish leading to lack of food for them.So in an effort to source food we may suffer with an increase of rat/mouse
infestations in our homes.

gonnaenodaethat as a lover of all things living I would not put a collar on my cat, because as other cat owners may know that collars can inflict lots of injuries or even death. For example if a cat falls out of a tree the collar gets caught on a branch.

On a lighter note though, if you have read through all the posts on this thread, you will see that our cats don't all hunt for wildlife i.e crisp/chocolate wrappers leafs twigs and sausages

Hey i aint the polis! I.ve had cats bring back birds live and dead from sparrow to huge **** off seagull. Had other stuff from mice to mars bar wrappers so i do see the 'funny' side to it. I have 6 cats but 5 stay indoors. The one that gets out doesn't catch anything due to his collar which these days are easy release collars. If a cats collar gets caught on anything they pull apart. I consider myself a responsible cat owner and i don't let him out unless it is daylight hours. Believe me within a day or so he stopped asking at night. i love all our wildlife and will not see any harmed if i can help it.

Fair enough. Do you really think domestic cats have much of an impact on wildlife though.

i actually do. Especially on a local basis. I started feeding the birds when i moved here and got the usual sparrows, all sorts of t1ts (some human neighbours too). I was therefore absolutely delighted when a wren appeared about 5 years ago. Its call brought in another so for the whole spring we had a couple maybe even taking care of chicks somewhere then my neighbours cat caught and killed one of them. I.ve never seen another one around since. . The cat now wears an easy release collar . It doesn't bring things back now. I.m just a nut about animals. This thread has just reminded me of when pants brought home what looked like a whole leg of lamb. He dragged it up the road. Took him ages but boy was he proud. Wasn't so happy when i whipped it off him for the bin lol. I.m not usually a narky cow honest. Just passionate about wildlife. And cats lol

as ive already stated ive lost count of the amount of collars mr dudley has lost. all easy release so they are safe for him. some cats just dont keep collars on, theres no point in keepp buying them, adding all the bells, sending them out for them to come in the next day 'naked'. ive tried and tried, and the longest hes kept 1 on for was almost 2 weeks.

Mine is a rubbish hunter as well. Although she did savagely beat up a frozen prawn that fell out of the fish pie I was cooking last night.

Samba brings home red rubber bands that are discarded by the postman. She likes to play with them and I can make use of the odd one too.
She doesn't bring home any "live" objects; she knows better.

Sparkie brings lots of worms in. I went into the dining room one night and found a pile of worms, think about 4. He only seems to go on a worm bender when it is raining though
