Those houses with no BT telephone line can now avoid the £124.99 installation fee.

BT are offering free installation online, the catch is a 18 month contract and the take up of a BT Broadband package.

So whats the cheapest they offer?

For basic broadband use and unlimited weekend calls:

BT Get connected(BT Broadband Option 1 with Weekend Calling plan, which offers free installation,10GB download allowance,Free calls to landlines,0845 and 0870 numbers at weekends and free BT privacy with Caller Display.

The cost of this for the first 3 months: £7.99 per month, then £15.99 after that, Standard telephone line rental is £12.54 per month. It also offers free UK evening and weekend calls through BT Broadband Talk which is a VoIP service and you are given a seperate geographical phone number, so it works like a second line.

Free installation is subject to making 10 chargeable calls via BT per month, however these can be inclusive calls as well. Or they can be 30 chargeable calls or an inclusive calls if you pay every 3 months. Failure to make this number of phone calls will result in a compensation fee of around £6.80 for that calendar month.

Do you work for BT's marketing dept? If you don't, you're doing a very good impression of someone who does!

Indeed. Still it's a bad offer compared to when they've ran it before - you didn't have to take their joke of broadband service.

I have lots of customers with BT Broadband and they are very happy with it. It isn't the cheapest and is not for heavy (>100 GBytes pcm) downloaders but a lot better than many others.

To get your free BT line installed, all you have to do is call 0800 800 150 and ask for the 'New line free connection offer'. The offer isn't available to take up online.

The calls can be inclusive calls (i.e. the ones you get free with the Unlimited Weekend Calls Plan - which you get free with the line rental anyway).

Its on the BT website itself.

And no I don't work for BT, far from it, completely different industry.

Everyone says that, when I display offers from Virgin Media people suggest I work for them.

I doubt it makes any use of BT employees coming on here presenting special offers. Because 1. They don't earn any commision, 2. BT employs big marketing firms which does all the work for them

Its a good offer though, because after 18 months you can change Broadband provider and/or/maybe the provider managing your line.

Good point but what happens if you don't make the 10 calls per month or 30 per quarter ?

Like it says, you get charged £6.80 for the month you didn't make the calls.

But I like I also said it includes calls that ARE included in your inclusive free calls, so making calls to 01,02,03 and 0845 and 0870 numbers at the weekend still count towards it.

Why on earth wouldn't you if you now it's a requirement and will cost you money if you don't?

Pick up the phone on the first Sunday of each month and dial 020 7043 1320 (a geographical number for the speaking clock) ten times in quick succession (hanging up in between each 'call') and, in less than 2 minutes, the job's done! The calls will cost nothing because they're inclusive in the Unlimited Weekend Plan which you must have (at least).
