Whilst it may be 'fun' it is also quite dangerous to pierce your own ears etc. There is the risk of infection from the piercing process, if the implement is not sterile, and also risk of infection from inserting a non sterile earring to the fresh piercing. Also after care is very important, and with a self done piercing you would have had no advice on that, or ability to go back to the piercer if there are any problems.

I pierced my ears a few years back, it didn't hurt at all, mind you, I was a little tipsy at the time. I put 9ct gold studs in afterwards and was very careful to bathe my ear lobes every day.

If they think it'll only take a weekend to close up, it can't have been a particularly good attempt.

I recommend you getting it done at Claire's, even though it effing hurts it's worth it.

I had 2 girls staring at me when I had mine done. But don't let that put you off, let the professionals do it otherwise if anything goes wrong you'll only have yourself to blame.

I've had an infected piercing and went to a random piercers/tattoo parlour in the middle of Devon and they were happy to give me some advice on how to sort it out. I've found most piercers at tattoo parlours are really helpful, even if you didn't get anything done there.



I'd rather attempt to pierce my ears with a rusty nail than go to Claires. A proper piercers is the way to go OP.

This takes me back. I got my ear pierced when I was 17. Thing kept getting sore and horrible. Gave up on earrings a couple of years later as the hole kept getting infected.

The 'guns' used in places like Claires are not sterile, also the gun is more damaging to the surrounding tissue as it relies on force (because it fires the earring in, and therefore the earring is not that sharp). That is why it hurts so much it bruises and tears the hole through the ear rather than a clean piercing with a canular needle, as used by piercers. Also the girls have very little training, and in the middle of a shop is not the best environment to get a piercing.

I would always recommend going to a body piercing studio, it is safer, cleaner and will hurt less!

This is true, coming from someone with 28 piercings in total I think I know a bit.

The guns can not be sterilised in an autoclave.
