Realistic!! Apart from the fact no one does their own washing, and no one is allowed to work outside the Square
This isn't true.

The Mitchells, Patrick, Max and Tanya have their own washing machines.

Both Max and Bradley had jobs outside the square, and Masala Masood is elsewhere too.

How can the Licence of the pub change hands twice in a couple of week , The licence has to be granted by a Magistrate
I thought they changed that years ago... I don't think it has anything to do with magistrates anymore.

I could be wrong but I seem to remember that when the licensing laws were changed, to bring in later drinking, etc, they took the authority to grant and revoke alcohol licences away from magistrates and gave it to local councils - making it easy to revoke licenses quickly for troublesome venues.

Bad me , you have to apply to the local Licensing Board , it still takes a while

They may have their own washing machines, but they still trudge to the launderette most of the time. Max and Bradley did have jobs outside the Square, but they were breaking the rules of EE by working elsewhere, they had to find work in the market, car lot, caff, pub etc., just like everyone else.

I like them to have some kind of internal logic, though. Bramacey as bezzies is just ludicrous. These characters don't forgive anyone a funny look given in 1993, how these 3 can apparently have forgotten their past - actually it's annoying, because it just says 'shovel these viewers any old poop, they'll swallow it'.

The fact that the pub has a "Menu" board, yet there is no kitchen or evidence of anyone cooking in there (or eating in there, for that matter...)

The fact that the Vic stereo suddenly goes on the blink at the exact moment an argument kicks off

The fact that some of the most illiterate women in the world are in a book club and manage to read 400-page novels in a week, as well as holding down jobs and their other dramas

I thought that too! It was the most random thing ever. Doesn't she have a mobile? And she was hardly discreet about the whole thing - she shrieked like a banshee.

Thats not suspension of reality, thats just excellent TV .

How exactly are Jane, Zainab and Denise illiterate? Also, they never read the novels, I don't think, who does in book clubs .

Denise isn't the brightest tool in the box. But I was mostly referring to Heather and Shirley, who often struggle to string sentences together...

What's on the menu? Pie and mash? Boiled beef and carrots? Mrs Lovett's pies?

And why are they always so busy preparing food at Masala Queen? Surely they don't have functions to cater for in the middle of the week, every week? Unless they prepare the food for the weekend functions WELL in advance...
