Hi

Can someone help me. I recently downloaded an audio book and it has come as a .aa file. Although the system said it should work on my Creative Zen Nano Plus player, it don't ! It requires a .mp3 file.

I am trying to find some software that will convert it, without having to burn a CD and transferring it from there.

Would be grateful for any help.

Thanks.

.aa is the extension for Audible's file format for audiobooks.

You should be able to play these on you Nano Plus but you might need to upgrade the firmware. You'll probably also need the audible software to activate that device for DRM purposes.

You should be able to import audible stuff into itunes and burn a CD.

You can also convert .aa files using a couple of audio utilitites. I believe there is a version of River Past Audio Converter somewhere on the web that will convert .aa to mp3, and I think you can also do it in Goldwave.

Firmware is here:

If you bought the book it will verify your details and transfer it to your Zen with software downloaded from audible. If not, I suppose you can google DRM removal.

I have downloaded all of the above. Still can't seem to get them to play. I put the file into WMP and it sync-ed it. When I look at the mp3 player folder (on the PC), it shows it being there, but not when I look at the device.

It still does not seem to be in .mp3 format.

I had a trial subscription with Audible, which I have now cancelled. I never realised it would be so complicated

The other 'problem' is that I don't fancy forking out for a software programme that I will only use the once ! (yeh, I know - skinflint !).

I have Sony Sound Forge which I normally use to edit audio programmes, but it won't load .aa files.

I also have Freecorder which records anything that comes out of the PC speakers, but that would mean running the file for about 4.5 hours !

That's DRM for you. My putting all these restrictions on stuff that people buy, it over complicates things. I use Audible and I can only listen to my books on one device because of the protection.

Try this one, they are the same company as Sound Taxi and I think that the trial version lets you download one book.

Thanks everybody.

I have downloaded and am trying Tunebite Converter. This seems to let me try it for free. However, the screen seem to suggest that it will take 2 hours to convert !! (The price you have to pay, not to pay!!).

If I am still alive after that time, and/or I remember I will come back with any results.

Now I have a message to say that the conversion is limited to 60 seconds. I need Tunebite Premium to lift the restriction ! (Taken 20 mins to tell me that).

Next .... !

I thought this had done it, but it only has extracted 90 seconds of the file.
