Recording 2 shows on different channels

Hey,
This may be a stupid question but I've never recorded shows at the same time before
Tonight I set Live at the Apollo and QI XL to record on my Humax - Apollo is at 10:15 on BBC1 and QI is same time on BBC2, if I just press "record" do they both record without interruption due to the twin tuners?

Yes they do - that's why you have twin tuners.

but bear in mind if your watching something else at the same time you might get a clash.

Depending which regional variation of BBC 1 you choose to record will affect what you can view while recording the two

If you record BBC 1 using 951 or 954 you can watch BBC HD whilst recording

Irrespective of the BBC 1 region you record you can also watch

105 Channel 5
106 BBC Three
107 BBC Four
600 CBBC
601 CBeebies

Ignoring the fact that 600 and 601 are part time channels

Any other channel won't be viewable but you can of course watch a recording you have already made.

When you press OK on the epg entries to set the timers the hdr won't let you make an impossible combination of recordings, it will flag up a clash and even find an alternative recording slot if the programme is repeated within the current epg contents.

Just realised if you record BBC 1 using London 950 (101 if you have a london postcode) or 957 you can not only watch any other channel but can also use live pause on the third channel

Thats right

I'm recording BBC1 London and as for QI - I marked the whole (remainder?) of the season to record.

I noticed that since I got Freesat the Signal Quality on Sky (downstairs) has improved a lot - SS is about 50% (used to be around 30) and SQ is 80-95%, maybe something was done to the dish, dunno....

A previous PoW [Pearl of Wisdom] from Graham said..

"Start instant recording on 951 and 108 (same low band vertical transponder so only tuner 1 is needed).
Now check tuner 2 is fully working by tuning to say 800 (high band horizontal) and press pause.
You should in fact be able to tune to any 3rd channel and pause it."..

Obviously after re-installing a cable which had mysteriously gone AWOL..
I followed G's advice..especially as 800 is QVC..
which the wife watches when soaps are not on..
so i could remember the channel numbers easily..

I beamed at 0200GMT this morning ...as the HD recorded and the Channel Isles..and
i Paused QVC several times..with relish..
then I thought that i would switch off and go to bed..
Well it did not happen as swiftly as one can write it..

No response from the Set to the Remote..
Thought that obviously i had to stop the HD recording first..
If you have ever been to Vegas ..then that is the view I had..
as all of the Dialogues.. when they came into view..
were rotating like ..machine wheels and the Gold boxes
hypnotised me into thinking the Jackpot was coming up soon.
I was glad of the reputation of Humax and Argos..
as i plucked up the courage to switch off at the set..
I braved it out.. pushing the remote buttons now and again and watching delayed ..
out of sequence ..responses..as all the time the wheels were rotating..
Reminded me of how i crashed the Concorde in FS 2000..
Eventually the wheels came to rest..with a stupid question..
"Which recording did i want to stop?"
ALL of them obviously!!
I let the screen stay there unmoving for several minutes whilst i took stock..
I then stopped HD recording and normality ensued as if it was all a bad dream..
But in reality I had reached the Point of Instability of the Humax..
Hence i would caution.. like Blue Peter..
"Don't do this at Home" IF..
like me ..
your Hard Drive is saying 86% Full..
as it probably means the Video side is FULL already perhaps?
Do they ever De-Frag themselves?

Thanks grimtales.. makes me realise that
My 'Tale of Woe' [Above] could have implications for a range of factors..
but SS 100 and SQ 95 when ever i look at my alignment.

Rather than start a new thread just in case it's old news and this thread is about recording programmes ITV are making changes on Freesat and will affect a few PVR recordings.

ITV are making some changes to the ITV1 regions on freesat on Tuesday 23rd February 2010, in preparation for future service improvements. This will only affect customers who receive ITV1 Central South and Central East, and residents on the Isle of Man. Customers in these areas using freesat+ will need to re-select any ITV1 programmes scheduled to record after Tuesday 23rd February 2010. This includes all series linked programmes on ITV1, where you have selected a whole series to record automatically. To re-select your recordings, simply go to the programme in the 8-day onscreen programme guide, and set it to record by pressing the record button on your remote control.

The moderators can move it if there's a better place for this.

There was a link from Freesats home page but can't get it to work for some reason Sorry.
