I saw something on TV this morning - a headline in one of the papers "Save Our Soap" saying there were emergency talks going on about EE and how bad is has become. The Sun or some such paper. Maybe someone can put the story up on here - afraid I don't know how to!!

Who can blame them. EE has gone from bad to worse recently what with the Ferria family and the totally implausible Barry/Janine saga and now have a funeral for someone who has left the show over a year ago how sad and stupid this programme has become

And what are they doing to rescue it? Talking about bringing back Tamzin Outwaite and other old characters.

Just because it was better when she was in it doesn't mean it was down to her - it was better storylines. I guess as well as doing that they will go for a few more 'sensational' gangster storylines (big yawn). I don't find many of the characters in EE fully rounded the way the Corrie ones are. If they're not in the middle of a big storyline they actually contribute very little. I find all the drama around Mark dying and Patrick's proposal a lot more interesting to watch than peole getting beaten up by the local hoodlum. To me that's what soap's all about - peeping into other people's lives. But they have to be people you can relate to.

I really cant see the point of having a "Typical Eastend sendoff" for Mark. He has left the series. Whats the point if not to gain more viewers. This week EE promises to one of the most boring in its history with the whole thing being dragged oooooouuuuuuuuuuutttttttttt.. Why not have something realistic like the funeral Janine arranged for Barry on a Bank Holiday..

At least the funeral gives scope for some of the cast like Pauline and Mark to get involved in a storyline (IMO better than the daftness of the holiday camp stuff last week!) James A is a good actor & good to see him with some decent scenes.

The funeral isn't really about a character who left a long time ago (funerals are never really about the person being buried, are they?) but about the reactions of the character's friends and family.

And its A LOT better than kidney transplants, gangsters, and not-quite-incest

btw agree that there's no point resurrecting characters like Tamzin O's. It's the storylining and writing that is at fault here, not the acting (which isn't to say I think the entire cast are marvellous actors, just that lately none of them have had a decent line between them).

Bring back Tony Jordan.

Tee Hee, yes of course, Martin. Why did Pauline have to choose Mar names for both sons, it upsets the easily confused amongst us

Hah! I really can't see Tamzin Outhwaite wanting to return to a soap career when she's got so many fresh projects going for her. Mel was a great character but without Steve, Phil, Lisa etc. there wouldn't be much point in returning her as a billy-no-mates type.. Anyway, I always thought that was what they brought kate into the show for.. to replace Mel.
