make-up tips?
Well I dont wear a lot of make-up on a daily basis except for maybe concealer and occasionally foundation, but when I go out I put on concealer, foundation, eyebrow pencil, eye-liner, mascara, lipstick and sometimes eye shadow. This sounds like quite a lot to me, but within an hour of going out it's pretty much all gone! I say to my friends "my make-up always comes off really quick" and they're like "you don't wear make-up" I'm like "yes I do, this is exactly my point! No one notices when I wear it!"
So anyway I just would like some tips on good make-up that stays on and how to put eye-liner on to stay on because it's gone in 5 mins with me. Everyone else has loads of slap on and I look like I have none on at all. Where am I going wrong? I don't want to have anything fake like false eye-lashes, and I don't want to go to the toilets every ten minutes to re-do my make-up either. Why won't it stay on my face though, I don't get it-do I just not put enough on? I don't want to end up looking like a drag queen! |

Depends what sort of make-up you are using.
If you have oily skin, liquid foundation might just 'melt' off. You could try mineral foundation, or I use mousse foundation, which is quite good. Eyeliner, pencil eyeliner can sometimes 'wear off' after about 6 hours or so, but gel eyeliner is really good and stays on for a long time. Lipstick always wears off quite quickly on me, but if you use it as a stain, it lasts a little bit longer. A few hours before you start doing your make-up, use a bit of lip balm so it sinks into your lips, then when you start your make up, put a bit of lipstick on your finger and push the colour into your lips. Blot with tissue, then do the same again. |

Prepare your face well. Put your moisturiser on at least 15 minutes before your foundation and concealer, so that it has had a chance to "sink in" to your skin so the rest doesn't slide off. Then use a light face powder to "set" the foundation - just a little pressed on or applied with a soft brush will really help it to stay put. If you put a little base onto your eyelids as well, this can help eye-shadow and eye-liner stay on. Blot your lippy with tissue when you first apply it, then re-apply it to finish. Another tip is to try not to touch your face with your hands - resting your face on your hands will remove your make-up bit by bit.Hope this helps!

I probably shouldn't but I wear liquid eyeliner instead of pencil eyeliner, on both my top and bottom lid. It comes out much darker, looks neater and stays on much longer.

I love liquid eyeliner but make such a mess with it! Gel eyeliner works far better for me. I have some bobbi brown ones, which are great, and some mac ones, which are nice, but i prefer the BB ones. Not tried the cheaper ones, so cant say how good they are for lastability...
OP, do you get really hot when you go out? Mine always ends up 'sweating' off my face, but then I do get really hot when I'm out. Also, gel/liquid blushers are meant to be really good for lasting, although on dry skin, they might not blend so well, although if you moisturise first, this should give a nice base, as long as you blend quickly after applying! I dont know what brands you are using, but I find a lot of the cheaper brands dont last as well on me either. I own LOADS of make-up (Havnt bought much lately though), but my best products are... Foundation - Maybelline Mousse foundation (With a clinique translucent powder on top) Concealer - Clinique (Cant remember the name, but its a green pen-style one) Eyes - Barry M for shadow (If you use a bit of concealer on the lids before applying, it doesnt all gather in the crease of your lid), Bobbi Brown/Urban Decay 24/7 for eyeliner (Forgot to mention earlier - The urban decay eyeliners are AMAZING - Once you apply, let it set for 60 seconds and then it stays in place all night! About 11 quid each), and that maybelline vibrating mascara. Blusher - Benefit - I use dallas and thhhrob, but these are powder blushers so might not be great for dry skin - I have heard good things about Daniel Sandler watercolour blush though. Lips - YSL or maybelline (But only a certain one... again, I cant remember the name, but its a nude shade from the new range, that has TONS of colours!). Have you ever tried lipcote? Its good for staying power for lipsticks, although tends to make my lips dry (Although my lips get quite dry anyway). |

Lipstick - blot it then add a quick sweep of an eyeshadow over the top. Keeps it on for hours and you can experiment with sparkly or matt shadows depending on the occasion.

Eyeshadow aye? Never heard that tip before but will definitely try it now! Kezby-Thanks for all the make-up suggestions, will definitely see if I can get my hands on them. No I don't get really hot generally-I could just be going out for a meal and my make-up doesn't stay on...I think it's because I don't put enough on in the first place, I'm not very daring but I bought some bright red lipsticks that I know will stay on a long time but I think I might look a bit stupid wearing it! Does anyone else find that some eyeliner irritates their eyes? I have one pencil one that's very dark and would probably stay on for a while but I have to take it off after 10 mins because it makes my eyes water and gives me a runny nose! |

I use a Lancome waterproof eye liner, itīs a khol pencil and really stays on, especially in the hot summers we get here. Itīs not cheap but I cant live without it now as not a fan of the line the liquid ones give, mine gives a softer line.
Also put your make up on slightly heavier in the night, my friend has the same problem and when she stayed here I watched her put the tiniest amount of foundation on and moan that it comes off. After I helped her put more on, not slap it on but just more applied carefully, it stayed on all night. Lipsticks, I always have to top up, never found one that stays all night, the colour stay ones just go all clumpy if you reapply. I just stick with a nice creamy one and re apply every time I go to the loo. But do blot and apply a second coat then blot again for more staying power, applying a bit of foundation over your lips helps lipstick stay on too. |

I use a primer (Laura Mercier), and my makeup stays on the whole day. A primer is especially good if you use eye shadow.

My eyeliner always ends up on my face, even the liquid ones (and I don't like the thin line it gives either - prefer a smudgier look) and then I bought Urban Decay 24/7 which I wore for the first time today. It's incredible! - had a shower and washed my hair later on in the day and it still stayed on. And didn't end up over my face! The Urban Decay eye primer is great too |

I would try a different foundation, like a mineral one or none at all.
Clarins and Clinique have lovely makeup, but they are pricey. More affordable and very fun ranges Pop and Pixi have a sale on here: http://www.brandalley.co.uk/FSMarque/Id-3129-Produit-0 From the home page select Pop / Pixi Hope you find something that works for you. X |

I would also recommend a mineral foundation.
After years of using liquid foundations I converted recently to a mineral. OMG what a difference. Not only does it feel so light and like you're not wearing any foundation but the coverage is excellent and it stays put all day!

Hope you don't mind me snipping your post, kezby!

The Urban Decay eye primer is great too I have a few now, I've got a purple one, a silver one (Which is my absolute favourite - Can be very subtle or nice and bold - I run it gently around my lower eye to make me look a bit more awake!), a green one and a bronze one... I have a feeling that the black one would be amazing for doing a smokey eye! |

Basically if you're makeup isn't staying on your face then you need to adjust your routine ...
ALWAYS cleanse and moisturise before applying foundation/concealer (i'm sure you know that already, just checking), leave the moisturiser to soak in for about 15 mins so make-up glides on easily and doesn't look greasy when applied. To keep foundation/concealer on your face you need a face primer - GOSH do a good one from superdrug, it's about Ģ12. to keep eyeshadow and eyeliner on, you need an eye primer - MAC is a good brand. BTW its a good thing that people don't know you're wearing make-up! thats the way it should be unless you're going on a night out or special occasion or something.

I would agree with MrsBambi and suggest using a primer under your make up. You can put it all over your face, and also on your eyelids to help eyeshadow etc stay put.
GOSH make one that is available in places like Superdrug, and there are also some available online such as Smashbox Primer. Primers really do help make up stay put, smooth out any fine lines and help balance out the skin. They can also be worn without foundation etc over them to just give a smooth and even skin. |
