My brother is making out cat obese.

My mum feeds the cat twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. He has a pouch for breakfast and dry food for dinner.

Additionally, my brother also feeds the cat twice a day though we tell him not to. He really thinks he is "treating" the cat by over feeding him.

It's not healthy for the cat to eat 3 pouches and a dry food every day, I know because he is getting really fat.

How do I stop my brother as he will not listen thinking we are being "nasty and horrible" to the cat.

Get the food into a lockable cupboard so he cant get to it.

Simple and effective answer. As a young bloke, he's unlikely to actually go to the trouble of buying food himself. Make sure that anything that could possibly be fed to a cat (cold meats, tinned fish etc.) is also under lock and key.

I have 12 cats and they have 2 + pouches a day and biscuits as well i tried them with tins and they dont like it. One of my cats is a large cat due to a medical problem and he is the one that eats the least. Do you know your cats weight. Tell him if a cat becomes overweight it can lead to many number of health issues like cyctas, blocked bladder, arthritas, heart and liver problems. I do give my cats tip bits but because i have 12 they dont get that much. Cat food companys like you to feed them more because they make more money. Around 150gms - 200gms a day is enough for an adult cat

We have put the cat food in the cupboard under the stairs in the past so he can't give it to the cat, and we have caught my him giving him grated cheese, sausages and ham from out of the fridge. It's annoying because when it comes to making food for ourselves the cat has eaten it along with his own food!!!!

How old is the brother? Tell him if he does it again, his PlayStation is history - that should fix him!

that's really bad... if he can't help himself, maybe get him involved in the morning and evening feeds, rather than extra feeds throughout the day... if that makes sense?

Is your brother unable to understand that he will make the cat unwell?

Could he be distracted by getting him to 'train' the cat. Training cats is limited and difficult but can be rewarding. Mine just about have recall and 'away'. And Layla will 'high five'. When they are in the mood. Sometimes.

All that ham cheese etc. that your brother is giving the cat will eventually make the cat ill because there is a lot of salt in food like that/so when your cat needs to go to the vet for all the things that are wrong with its health your brother is going to deal with it is he? Your brother must be quite young otherwise he would behave more responsibly. I`m quessing hes about eight.

How about you and your Mum stop feeding the cat, tell your brother to research how much a cat should be eating and then give him ALL of the feeding responsibilities. That way the cat might not be over-fed so much. Of course monitor how much your brother gives the cat by all means and step in if he doesn't do it correctly.

Have you pointed out that he is slowing killing the cat? All that salt and fat is not good at all.
