Sore Paws

I took my two Springers up the park today and we spent a long time, fetching balls.

A lot of this involved them running across tarmac areas.

This evening I noticed Sam limping a bit and he has raw spots on his pads on three legs.

The vets won't normally be open until Monday is there much I can do between now and then for him?

I'm a great believer in natural aloe vera (the pure variety in a tube). It's soothing and contains natural antiseptic, and won't harm your pets if they lick it off. I use it on my cat's sore eyes (she has an allergy which causes her eyes surrounds to swell - she scratches them and they bleed).

Try and wash his paws with cooled boiled water. Make sure he hasnt got anything stuck in it otherwise an infection could start off. YOu can use a product called hibscub(spelt wrong) which you can get from chemist. Its like a antiseptic product which you mix with water. It is for us humans but a lot of people use it on there animals. I know asda and boots sell it.

Yes it's called hibiscrub ~ I always have a supply for cuts etc & for hot spots that Barney seems prone to in hot weather. Most chemists sell it & it lasts a long time. Mind you the vet tried to sell me some at double the price at Tesco Pharmacy!

Thanks all I got some Hibiscrub and washed the raw bits and found a few more areas in the process.

I trimmed his fur around them as some had stuck to the grazes.

He wasn't very happy but hardly struggled.

I'll get the wife to take him up the vets tomorrow.

Thanks again.

I use it for my cat and it works wonders. Please let us know how he gets on at the vets.

i'd also say to put something over his paws when he goes outside too, to keep them clean

Well I have rarely seen the the like of the healing.

I used Hibiscrub twice a day and put a but of micro-pore over the worse bits that were likely to contact the floor.

By Monday lunch the grazes were almost invisible, so deferred the vet, and by Tuesday AM he was right as rain, I can hardly find the area.

Probably helped that he is in excellent health (they both are).

The only thing I seen heal as fast was a Rat after an abscess burst which healed in less than 24 hrs.
