If this story is to be believed, the DOI is permanently off my viewing list.

I despair at how these TV execs minds work. I wouldn't pay the nasty little man 2p a show - in fact I wouldn't have employed him beyond series 1.

"Jason may be controversial but, without him, the panel would be dull."

Without him the programme would be pleasant to watch, not cringe making.

Without him more people would watch the show.

Come on ITV listen to the public and get rid of the nasty little man.

Seems the cruder and nastier you are, the more you get paid.

Not a good example to set.

People on here conveintly forget he is paid to be nasty, thats why complaining about him was futile, he does what he is paid to do. People would have been better advised complaining to the people who employee him.

I strongly suspect a lot of what he says is scripted tbh.

Yes, the producers want him to shake things up and be the one that gets people talking. I think he's gone a bit too far sometimes, but he's no where near as bad as some people make out. Most people are too busy booing him to listen to him properly. In between the silly stuff, he gives excellent, specific advice.

I don't believe The Star on pretty much anything, but it is possible that his pay includes all of those extra tv appearances he does, such as This Morning with the evicted skater, and other press. He does more of that stuff than any of the other judges, and as much as I'd love to see more of them cropping up elsewhere (particularly Robin), he does the lion's share. Maybe the others don't want to do it, or maybe tv producers would prefer Jason.

I paid him an extra tenner to wear that button thing.

As it's the Star I will take the story with a pinch of salt.

However, it's Karen who works hardest on this show & not Jason. Appearances on This Morning don't amount to that much extra work really, especially as he works on that show anyway.

Karen trains the skaters day in & day out so surely she should be paid much more than any of the others.

Well said. Karen definitely works hardest on DOI of all the judges. She probably does more than the others put together. Don't forget, as well as being a judge and coaching the celebs, she's also heavily involved in the audition process - I believe she did skating auditions with 60 or 70 celebs this year.

Yes. There were quite a few photos of Karen in the press over the summer with various celebs so she's working on the show for most of the year. The other judges just work 1 day a week for 3 Months.

Karen's husband Stephen is also involved with DOI, but he is kept behind the scenes training the Northern based skaters, I would like to see him as a Judge....he has been a judge on the tour!

I was talking specifically about the tv appearance type work. I don't doubt that Karen does a lot more work when you add it all up, and for that reason alone there is no reason to believe that she and the other judges would ever be on a matching fixed rate. I'd also presume that as head judge, Robin would be getting more, which is probably the main reason he was given the title in the first place!

Reports about tv personality pay are always reported shoddily. The papers always made a big deal out of Phillip Schofield getting paid more than Fern Britton, but they tended to forget that as well as This Morning and Mr & Mrs they did together, he was doing Dancing on Ice, and had a golden handcuffs deal.

It might be that Karen gets a fee for judging and a fee for coaching which The Star are overlooking, and it might be that the extra money Jason is getting is for all of his extra tv work, including the non-DOI This Morning appearances. Or it might be that ITV think that he's the one who they need to pay more because he has more options if he were to walk away.

Or it could just be a whole load of nonsense.

Well I'm inclined to take the article with a pinch of salt, but I wouldn't be sad to see the back of Jason.

The problem is that he often makes very sensible comments about the performances, but he wraps them up in such unnecessarily personal insults that the constructive aspects get lost in the resulting uproar.

I wish the producers would realise that we don't want 'pantomime' judges on these types of programmes - the majority of us are watching for the skating (or dancing or singing) and would far rather hear advice and constructive criticism than scripted abuse. It's really very tiresome!!

I do hate it when the judges become the focus. I think X Factor & Strictly have suffered from the judges taking centre stage & fear DOI is going down the same route.

Jason's alright but I don't think the show would suffer that much without him...tbh I think the bosses underestimate the viewers - we are generally more interested in watching the celebs skate than the controversy which the judges bring so Jason probably doesn't affect the viewing figures much.

Agreed. He didn't do the tour last year & that was probably the best tour so far. Fantastic routines from Torvill & Dean, Pros & Celebs. I didn't miss him & didn't really notice he wasn't there.

Well it is official folks - the way to get on in this life is to be completely obnoxious if you want to earn big bucks with ITV. Forget talent, forget integrity - go to evening classes and learn how to be a complete bitch and hone the acidity of your tongue with venomous precision. Blab to the papers about your three in a bed sex romps, dress like a latter-day Oscar Wilde and show the world you have a very nasty smell under your nose because you are so up your own arse you can clean your teeth from the inside and then you could go far. This is the message the nil-by-brain gormless goofy TV Executives are sending out to the public.

Do ITV actually think most of us enjoy listening to that revolting, nasty man. From the response the answer is a resounding NO. He is not contraversial or clever- is he just plain ignorant and pathetic. So are the Producers of this show if they value Jason Gardiner over Karen Barber. Nicky Slater and people who have actual talent and have achieved where they are today by the dint of hard work. All Gardiner is known for is having a very nasty mouth and pontificating. I hope if he makes another unacceptable remark he is booed and literally has egg all over his face. Pompous, arrogant twit.

Then he could make a tie from it as he does like his 'eccentric' clothing.

Sorry to go off the original topic of the thread but found this post interesting. Do the celebs actually have to audition and do they really try out 60 or 70 celebs? Didn't realise so many celebs were interested in doing the show.

And again - people say that Jason is rude!

Back on topic though - Jason has been the most talked about point of the show this year - just look at how many threads on here are about Jason rather than the skating itself. Like him or loathe him, he is generating publicy for the show and by that mark would deserve a pay rise.

However - this is from the Daily Star so is probably gubbins
