When scanning in Non-Feesat mode do you guys scan Astra 28.2 AND Eurobird. I ask because I seem to be getting mostly duplicate channels when manually scanning both satellites.

What's the best way to do this as I only want FTA at present.

Depends what you mean by duplicates, you get all the freesat epg channels because they are fta plus all the fta ones not on the epg. If you use the all and fta options the scan includes both 28.2 and 28.5E, some channels are duplicated usually because of regional variations but you wont find the same channel from 28.5 and 28.2 though.

I am convinced that I am seeing duplicates, accepting the fact that there are some regional variations.

So are you saying it does not matter whether you scan Astra OR Eurobird?

You don't have a choice, if you scan an individual transponder it's unique to 1 satellite. EG 11343 V is a Eurobird 1 transponder, 10714 H is a Astra 2D transponder, 12129 V is a Astra 2A south beam transponder and so on

I think we are at cross purposes here. In Non-Freesat mode you can scan an individual satellite. I am not talking about scanning frequencies or transponders.

It is when you first scan Astra and then Eurobird you get duplicate channels. This is the point I am trying to make.

You can't scan just one satellite, you get duplicates because you are scanning the same transponders at 28.2 and 28.5E twice. The freesat epg has channels from Eurobird 1, Astra 2A - South Beam, Astra 2B - South Beam and Astra 2D. There are no channels transmitted from more than 1 satellite at 28.2/28.5E.

Personally I just use the 'Freesat' satellite and I only scan transponders that contain channels that I am interested in. If you think that you have a duplicate channel, you can use the opt+ button on the remote to display the satellite and transponder data.

If I understand the reply further above, I only need to scan EITHER Astra OR Eurobird because the Humax sees ALL the transponders from what is virtually the same orbital position. Is that correct?

Correct the box has no concept of Satelittes it's just a list of transponders in a database (you can manually add others to the list). You can easily check by simply playing a duplicate channel and pressing opt+ to reveal the transponder details. Also if you get the following channels in a single scan you must have scanned all the satellites
BBC News (Astra 2A-South Beam), QVC (Astra 2B - South Beam), CBS Reality (Eurobird 1) and CH4 (Astra 2D).

A full manual scan with Transponders - All, Network Search - Disabled, Scrambled Type - FTA, Channel type - all should return 373 TV and 97 Radio channels

It is the (virtual?) satellite that my HDR tells me that it receives all (I think) channels from when in Freesat mode.

In advance settings mode, I have Freesat, Astra 2 and Eurobird 1 satellites. Astra 2 and Eurobird 1 have different transponder lists. Freesat appears to have a transponder list with both the Astra 2 and Eurobird 1 transponders.

Eurobird 1 is shown at 28.2E! and I also have 'ATLANTAIC' BIRDs 1, 2 and 3!

Perhaps not satelittes, but it does have satellites.

Channels belong to Transponders, Transponders belong to satellites.

If you use a DiSEqC switch to select LNBs the HDR will operate the switch according to the satellite that the channel that you want to watch belongs to.

Eurobird 1 is at 28.5E Astra 2 is at 28.2E

Except that it treats 28.2E and 28.5E as the same place so a diseqc switch won't change anything. It's only needed for other orbital positions.

Exactly my point it treats 28.2 and 28.5 and all 4 satellites as one. Try and scan just Astra 2A ?.
