In a nutshell...no

My initial reaction would be no - BUT - without knowing what is in it. protein levels etc - really it's not a question you can answer - I guess it's all about perception.

well, mine prefer the cheap aldi/netto chews to pedigrees

we buy in bulk more than anything and our stores don;t do more than say, 6kg bags, so for that reason, no, we wouldn;t.

My dog is a VERY fussy eater. For a long while he loved the Aldi single foil dog foods that were only about 26p each.

I've got Labs, so with the exception of one of the girls, I suspect the others wouldn't notice if I put dried cardboard in their bowls (I am sure they snort rather than eat it )

Often, from what I know and the experiences of others, high price in dog food doesn't necessarily mean better quality.

The one thing to watch out for is lots of colourants and additives which can have a rather hyper effect on some dogs

Our cat only eats one brand of dry food, Breakies that costs me 3.50 euros a month, I try him on Sheba and gourmet food but he eats a mouthful then leaves it. For what he costs us, I hardly think saving 50 cents is worth it.

The picture on my cat's face would be worth seeing if I did but then she gets a pack of pre-cooked chicken every week along with her whiskas

This makes me and my post above look mean. I would love to give this cat nicer food but he wont eat it. I´ve tried ham, chicken, raw mince, milk, all sorts and he´s just not interested at all

Doesn't he like liquorice, then ?

If they did a potato and fish version I would, as the ones we use cost a fortune.

Our lads will only eat Whiskas, and then only select flavours. They've gone off tuna for some reason, and it used to be a favourite.

Mind you, they still go wild for a can of real tuna in brine.

Loving some of the posts about fussy, spoilt, overfed pets above. Mostly from spinster cat owners, I'll bet!

You can feed your dog or cat with any sort of food. They might turn their nose up at it the first time it is put down to them, but, once they are hungry enough, they'll soon eat it.

Yes they will but in my experience sick it back up soon enough if they did not really like/want it to begin with.

Unless they have allergies ! ALthough I would have paid a fortune to anyone when we had our late chi Rosie if they could get her to eat anything cheaper than chicken or beef steak in gravy. She would starve herself rather than have anything less !

I have several dogs and for a long time fed them on Lidl's complete dry. They were happy enough and healthy enough, as far as I could see. I really only stopped because I've moved far, far away from any Lidl.

My finances are in better shape at the minute, so I've gone back to Iams for the first time in years. I've found a supplier where it's £25 per 15kg. I think Lidl was about £6 per 7.5 kg. The big plus for me is that the Iams is easier to clean up after.

My cats don't like opticat pouches and aren't keen on the dry food either. My parents' cat gobbles up the food though. If you mean real food though, some of Lidl's food has won awards, believe it or not...so it might be cheap in price but not necessarily cheap in quality.

My cat's always hungry, so we downgraded him to sainsbury or Co op's own and he eats it quite happily. I got some KIT E KAt pouches from the Pound shop last week as a standby, all the labelling is foreign but we managed to work out it was chicken beef and rabbit flavours and he wont touch it.

Had you ever compared the ingredients?

Yes. I give my cat Tesco's own, and I'm ready for some of you to judge me! hehe.

As someone else said, she's healthy, happy and eats it with no fuss, plus it doesn't cost me as much, so I don't see the problem.

my cat will eat any type of dry food she loves it so tend to buy whiskers but she turns her nose up at any sort of wet found wether it be puches, tins, pate or proper meat she just wont eat it. she is a funny one.

Both dogs usually have activpet dry and have had that for the last couple of years and are both very healthy and happy. never an empty bowl

As long as your cat is happy and healthy there is no reason to "judge" you we all feed what we can afford and what is convenient, and of course what our animals will eat - don't let anyone tell you any different.

One of my cats is not very adventurous in trying new foods (she tends to watch the other one eating first, then if that cat is fine, Erin will have a little lick herself ~ sort of like having her own personal taster). But she does like Co-op's own brand pouches although she's turns her nose up at Tesco, Sainsbury, M&S! Never tried Lidl or Aldi but there's no reason not to try them ~ if either of my cats ate them I'd probably buy them as a change.

My dog only likes butcher's brand tripe. He is such a fussy dog.
