There is a big difference to performing on a closed set with people (you gradually come to) know and performing in an arena in front of a live audience. And he is being judged in a personal manner; you only have to read the comments on these threads to see how a person *personally* presents themselves, how they look, their bearing, their smile, their grace - these are all attributes of Gary Lucy that are being judged, not some charcter he can hide behind. For many actors, acting is not about performing as yourself but as another character - someone other than you. But here, he is performing as Gary Lucy, not anyone else. And I think he has looked nervous in some interview (not all); but then, he isn't nervous about the interviews, it's about putting himself on stage.
