Why is Coleen Rooney one, or Cheryl Cole?

Not to me, they're not!

to me a style icon is someone that can make the cheapest/simplest thing look amazing on them. for example gwen stefani, i wudnt wear any of her stuff but the way that she carries herself in her clothes makes her an icon for me.

For me my ultimate style icon is Dita Von Teese. Love the vintage clothes, make up and hair. She always looks on point!

I think the reason teenage girls may look to the likes of Cheryl as a style icon is because her look can be copied at a fraction of the budget by shopping at Primark and Top Shop.

A style icon is someone who knows their own style and sticks to it. The likes of Cheryl are just styled by someone else and that's not what it's about.

I don't think Cheryl or Coleen are style icons, yes they look nice but you can tell they have been styled in order to fit the latest trend etc. I think Lady Gaga is a good example of a style icon, she puts input into what she wears and creating her outfits. I think my definition of a style icon is someone with their own sense of style and not just following what looks good.
