Just purchased the Grundig HD recorder and have a problem with the setting up connections to my system. When the HDMI lead from the unit is connected via my Sony AV amplifier to my Sony television I cannot get the picture back when bringing the Grundig unit out of standby. The only way to recover the picture is to switch the Grundig unit off at the mains and then back on again. I've tried a replacement unit from Comet but get the same problem. If the Grundig unit HDMI is connected directly to the HDMI input on the television I do not get this problem. Any ideas please.

Leave it connected to the TV for now and contact Grundig and/or Sony technical support for some help.

I have discussed this matter with the Grundig technical helpline, and they have advised me that while there should not be an issue with you connecting the Freesat box to your amplifier via HDMI, they would always recommend that you connect the box directly to your television via the HDMI connection. There may be a conflict between the Grundig box and your Sony amplifier which is causing the problem that you describe.

An alternative solution to this problem would be for you to connect the Grundig Freesat box, or your television, to your amplifier via an optical connection if possible.

had similar problem with foxsat thro' sony av receiver, it turned out to be the hdmi lead from humax to sony although it worked fine direct to samsung plasma, try another hdmi if you can

Hi, Could it not be an HDCP issue with your AV receiver that's blocking the signal.

I've tried different HDMI leads but with no success in solving the problem.

I've now found that if I set the HDMI SETTING on the Sony AV receiver to 'VIDEO DIRECT - ON' (sets the HDMI settings to output the video signal of HDMI input directly) I do not have a problem. It would appear that the HDMI signal from the Grundig is incompatible somehow with the Sony AV video processor within the amplifier, although as I've mentioned before. it works fine if I switch the Grundig off and back on again and is fine until it is put on standby and then brought back out of standby. All the other HDMI inputs from the other units on the system work ok.

Canonman, excuse my ignorance but what is an HDCP issue and is there a solution??

hi glad you have found a partial solution, should have mentioned in previous post that I had to exchange my first sony receiver stdra2400es as it was doing similar to yours, not pointing any fingers but sony does seem to be picky with leads and certain sat/freeview boxes
