I'm a tad disappointed about the screen actually. AMOLED but it's still 320x480. That's a bit 2007 really. Was also hoping for more of a bump in terms of grunt.

The HTC Desire appeals to me a lot more spec wise. HTC need to ditch the idea of this trackpad/trackball however. You should never need it.

The Legend does look interesting. But the Desire (aka Bravo) looks to be the choice handset.

Oooh, yes. That one looks nice.

I'm tempted by an Android phone but there are so many new ones coming out it's hard to keep track and make a decision.

The Desire is looking really good and now I want one! Thing is that I still have a year left on my N97 contract and various insurances are due for renewal shortly after its release

Who names these things though?! Desire?!

Is this basically identical hardware to the Nexus apart from the physical buttons and the optical joystick?

Will it then be possible to get the Sense UI version of the software running on the Nexus?

EDIT: Apparently it will! http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/17/h...t-makes-sense/

The HTC Desire is the same hardware as the Nexus One. Just the outer casing is different.

Touch screens are the way forward and have become so popular, which is why there are so many around now.

Touch screens are to be honest horrid things to use.

They are like typing on a ZX81, and then you get greasy finger marks all over the screen and can't see it in the sun.

BT now only offer two touch screen phones on their BT broadband anywhere package, when will companies realise that not everyone want a touch screen phone?

Touch screen phones used to be terrible but not anymore. I had an iPhone and currently use a Palm Pre, both great phones and also the newer iPhone 3Gs has a coating to prevent greasy prints.

Different people likes different things, the problem is that mobile phone manufactures, mobile phone service providers and mobile phone stores seem to think that everyone wants a touch screen. I been having a look around as I am considering going back to PAYG and get rid of BT broadband anywhere, in fact get rid of BT full stop, but every single website you go on it is touch screen. The phones that are not touch screen are not that much better than my old Samsung and no flip phones.

How long will it be before we get little choice but to have touch screen?

I would say that in a few years nearly all phones will be touch screen, simply because the technology is improving at such a fast rate that modern touch phones are light years away from the early ones a few years ago. Simple to use and really responsive.

Of course there are some that still feature full qwerty keyboards for typing on.

Simple to use for who? People forget that there are people who find it difficult to see screen for phones. Phones are getting more complex, touch screens are adding more features onto phones, not everyone want a phone that does everything.

Older people prefer phones they can use for calls and maybe the odd text, all the menus some phones have, even some of the ones that are suppose to be easy to use can confuse people who are not into tech.

I can work out how to use most things technical, I am one of these people who don't bother with the manual unless I really have to, the only time I bothered with the manual for my HTC s710 was when the thing went wrong and I had to reset it. But that don't mean I want touch screen. touch screen is fine on say information systems, like say in a museum, but for a phone I prefer proper keys.

Thankfully touch screen have not come on home phones, or I have not seen any, lets hope that don't happening.

I was never a fan of touchscreens. The Nokia 5800 slowly moved me towards them but it was still cumbersome.

Recently got a HTC Hero and it's fantastic. The screen brightness automatically adjusts depending on the lighting, and it's perfectly bright in any light conditions.

Also has the grease proof screen and only have to wipe it once a day, if that.

Can't get over how cheap my monthly rental is for this Hero, it's awesome plus I can still look forward to the Android 2.1 update that's coming with these newer handsets.
