Blackberry Orange PAYG help

I was given a Blackberry 8120 so I've put my existing orange sim card in it. I contacted orange to register for wireless connection and blackberry package etc. The phone goes onto the internet and facebook etc but it wont text or receive texts and it wont make calls and when phoned its as if its switched off. It has GPRS as the signal not SOS. This is driving me crazy, is there something im doing wrong?

I'm not familiar with that particular model, but other Blackberry handsets have the ability to turn off the phone part.
