Upgrade from Freeview from Sky to Freesat+ Humax

My faithful old VCR has given up the ghost, so, as I'm planning on getting a HD TV in a few months, I've decided to switch to Freesat + (Humax).

I'm located in Germany, so must order all from the UK.
Can anyone advise me if I need any additional kit (apart from Freesat box) when changing from Pace Skybox to Humax Foxsat HD Freesat Digi TV recorder? Cables, etc.

Also, any information / tips on picture quality would be much appreciated.

If my queries are a duplication of another thread, I apologise, I did try and search first, but I've never used a forum before so could have missed it.

You will need a LNB with at least two outputs. if you don't want to restrict your viewing/ recording capabilities. Then you will be able to use both the tuners to the full.

Best to get a four output one then you have two spare should you need them. also a HDMI cable to your tv if it accepts them.

As you are looking to get a new HD TV you might also consider getting a Panasonic HD TV with built in Freesat as well as the Humax HDR. Gives you extra options. You would need 3 outputs from your LNB. 1 to TV and 1 to HUMAX.

Unless the TV would be impractical in Germany.

" cables from LNB to Humax, 1 to TV. thats the set up Ive got. You also get the advantage of having Freeview on the TV so you can watch Dave etc. Only thing is it wont receive Freeview HD when it comes out, Dont think there are any TV's at present that will get Freeview HD.

No problem thats what the forum is for. are you looking to get British TV or German? You can also use the Humax to scan and store all the other loads of channels that are non Freesat. so you have then best of both worlds. its a bit fiddly switching between but it works.

Probably easiest to go for a quad LNB (4 outputs) as dual LNBs are harder to find. I bought one around 4 years ago from ebay, for about £15.00. It was a direct replacement for the standard SKY single LNB.

Regarding a TV with built-in Freesat, you will pay significantly more for one of these, whereas HD ready TV's are very cheap: 32" for no more than £300 with 2 or 3 inputs.

I can't speak personally but Foehn & Hirsch get consistently good reviews plus a 3 year warranty. Buy online at http://www.ebuyer.com/

This is how my Freesat is set up. I have 2 LNBs and have all the German channels in "Non-Freesat" mode including Das Erste HD and ZDF HD.

It's not ideal with the 2 modes but at least when I've finished watching the news at 20.15, it switches itself back to Freesat mode to record Corrie!
