The I hate touch screen phones thread
Anybody want to rant about them? Unresponsive, slow, treble the time to text on, 50 pushes before it works, half them are big like 80's phones and feel cheap.
All touch screen phones are rubbish unless it's an Apple Ipod or Iphone. Iphone is the king ignore my rant if you have one of them. Satio/LG's Samsungs are all rubbish touch screen phones. Give us more slide phones with buttons and high end features.

why start a thread saying how much you hate touch screen phones then call the iphone king???
I take it you mean the iphone is the king of the touch screens...that you just happen to hate? I hope phone manufacturers dont stop doing button phones, some people will say touch screen is the way forward but i think a phone with both probably wins out. |

The iphone is the only responsive, fast, sleek phone out of them. I still prefer buttons but if I had to have a phone with touch it would be that.
The rest are a joke. ![]() |

I must admit I used to think the same of all touchscreen phones but after 18 months of using an iPhone my mind has changed completely. I had the opportunity of testing a Google Nexus One a few weeks ago too in the States and will admit that was also exceptionally good - but not quite as good as the iPhone in my opinion.
I once tried a Viewty for a few days and couldn't send it back soon enough. |

What about some of these HTC phones like the Hero and HD2? I have never tried them myself, but I've seen video's online and read reviews which suggest they have very slick and responsive touch screens.

I wouldn't want a phone without a touchscreen as they are just so versatile. However, I do like a physical Qwerty keyboard as well. Plenty of phones have both.

I think a lot of the hate comes from people who have tried early resistive screens and have not got on with them. Quote:
Actually, that's a good shout because the HTC screens are very good - but they're also a bit finicky. If finicky is the right word. They just haven't got the interface right in my opinion.

Really? So you've tried every single touchscreen handset out there? Yeah right.
Eventually I looked at the devil phone and straight away saw what everyone was on about. Compared to all other touch screen phones it was in a league of its own and just highlighted how bad the others were. I would still be using my trusty K800 if the touch screens were all the same as the majority are now. |

I once tried a Viewty for a few days and couldn't send it back soon enough. I had a Nokia 5800 for about 2 days a year back, decided it just wasn't right, and gave it to my stepson as a birthday present, he seems to absolutely love it. Had an iPod Touch and it was okay, I could never get on with it as my primary device for music, let alone as a phone. Now I've had a Nokia 5230 for a few days and its continually surprising me. Nokia have evolved the UI from the original abortion that was on the 5800 to something quite usable. Its a good phone, good satnav and a very good music player. Its also as good as the iPhone for browsing (and maybe better/faster) once you install Opera. |

My old HTC s710 have a nice qwerty keyboard, better than any touch screen keyboard, just a shame I am having a few problems with it and the only ones that BT offer now are topuch screens. The hero and the touch 2.
I not been that impressed with Touch screen, even the Iphone. |

Anyone wanting a phone with actual buttons seems to be limited to either the very cheap end of the range or a few high-end (Blackberry, Nokia E-series) phones. There aren't many middle-of-the-road models with decent traditional or QWERTY keypads. As for me, I ended up with a Sony Ericsson model that doesn't work properly... |

I had the Viewty and I do think the responsiveness of it was crap. I find the Samsung Tocco and Tocco Ultra absolutely awful Literally having to punch the screen to get it to do what you want. The iPhone/iPod touch screen is a joy to use. I have large hands and rarely make a mistake when using the on screen keyboard on my iPod Touch. I have the Nokia 5800 as my phone and it's not as good as the Apple products the touch screen is good and I've yet to want to lob it with frustration.

My previous phone was a SE 850k and it had quite possibly the worst physical keypad ever designed. Small buttons that hurt the fingers, a pitiful excuse for a D-pad (which also hurt the fingers) and an awful 'touch' interface that only worked when it decided to. Simply awful.
I now have a HTC Magic and despite the relatively poor camera is a world away from the SE. The on-screen keyboard is OK most of the time, only becoming frustratingly unresponsve at the edges of the screen occasionally. So, while the screen is not as responsive as my iPod Touch, it's pretty close and for sheer versatility, beats keypad phones hands down (IMHO!) |

How come other companies can't make a screen atleast as responsive as Apple? Perhaps then they can work on a fancy OS. I heard there's a new touch screen Samsung phone using yet another OS. How many OS's do we need in phones? It use to be smart phone vs feature phone now there's loads. I read something about Apple being as big as the internet. That set's me onto another subject. I think Apple has destroyed the market as they all want to carbon copy it. SE won the camera phone war but the megapixel was is over. HD recording in phones seems to be a "niche". I also read all the companies are joining forces to make apps. Perhaps they are worried in times where OS counts Apple are winning? Apple is one of the most supported devices around. I do wonder what next for the market? DTT in phones failed with the Nokia N96, HD is a niche, Apps are only good on the Iphone, sat nav is a novelty not a must. Maybe it's just me but I got a Sony Ericsson Satio always upgraded to the latest model and the novelty is gone. The cameras no better than previous models, OS is worse, touch screen sucks. I'm back to my W995 shame companies have stopped making phones like that. Look at the Phones4U most wanted it's Apple Iphone and W995 second. |

But if you want old-skool, you can't beat a Psion 5mx keyboard - real keys and a touch screen! But not a phone

Whether it's an iphone, a viewty, a 5800 or whatever, I will never EVER get along with a touchscreen phone. I want buttons and keys I can feel and know I've pressed.

Never really liked sliders either, ok so the phone I use at the moment is a kind of slider, but only for the qwerty keyboard. I prefer flip phones, but even they are getting hard to get now. At least with flip phones the screen is protected, I got more scratches on my HTC phone in 18 months than I got on my Samsung in 3 years.

If the iphone is so fantastic why are there so many threads on here where people are trying to convince all all the rest of us that they made the right choice with their funny old iphone?
The HTC Hero's screen is very responsive although this doesn't make the person at the other end answer their phone any faster, or a text message get through the network any quicker. |
