Problem with the Caller Display on a BT Paragon 650

Hi guys and gals!

Houston we have a problem!

I am on a BT line with Caller Display with two BT corded phones both with Caller Display. The BT Relate SMS shows all the telephone number which are not withheld, however on the BT Paragon 650 whenever someone phone from a Virgin Media line it comes up as " External Call " yet on the BT Relate SMS it shows the number with out any problem. Is there a BT or BT Openreach engineer or someone who could assist? This is a little annoying, as you cannot greet the caller accordingly - like Battersea Dogs home etc or whatever ever.

Thanks in advance.

There have been problems in the past with ADSL filters "blocking" the CLI info.
Could be worth trying another filter or swapping filters and phones around to diagnose the prob.

Hello speckledhen,

I have just changed over the filter with a brand new one, so I will see if it works. If it does, then I will let you know. BTW, are you a BT Engineer or related to the telcoms world?

It could be the format of the CLI. I stand to be corrected on this one but I believe that there are various standards for the transmission of CLI. Virgin Media use a different standard to BT for their cable service as I understand it.

Therefore it is entirely possible that one phone can talk both variants of CLI but the other only understands BT.

If it were the filter then I would expect it to block both BT and Virgin CLI. Easy enough to test. Just swap the phones round.
