I doubt it. Same goes for loads of so called female singers around today - I wont bother to name them we all know who they are.

I dont agree, her choice of clothing has no influence on me, and I have her cd Call me old fashioned but its the voice I look for, not their image

Me too, her music's grown on me through my teenage daughter, and i think she's brilliant, and i coulden't care less what she wears.

I'd still have bought The Fame Monster.

I thought she was gimmicky with her outfits and soundbites and so on, until a friend made me listen to the album and I liked it so much I bought it myself.

When I'm listening to her songs and loving them, on my laptop or on my ipod, I'm not seeing her outfits. It's just the music, and I like it regardless of what she may or may not choose to wear.

Of course she would because it is quality pop music. Her image enhances it but it has to be good in the first place.

Yeah, she could be dressed in a bin bag but I'd still buy her music.

I think her image helped her to grab attention and stand out at the beginning but she does have substance underneath that and thats what has kept me interested.

Also the way she dresses actually hinders her in a way because people are quick to judge her as superficial and manufactured so they don't look beyond that and see she is actually talented.

Just listen to Bad Romance, her ability to write a perfect pop tune means that she doesn't actually need any costumes or gimmicks. I just happen to love the costumes anyway

She does dress and act weirdly, but unlike some, she has the talent and quality of songs to back it up. Her records are selling because of the music being good.

I think no one doubts her talent anymore, because she's more than proved it buy writing and performing her excellent pop songs. The fashion and her stage outfits etc are just part of her personality and entertaining package.

From what I ha ve heard, she has a good voice and doesn't realy need all the gimmicks. However, it has got her noticed so perhaps she could tone it down a bit now.

A good voice and good music isn't enough these days for World attention and mega-success.
There's so many artists out there, i think she was genius in manufacturing an image that would get lots of attention. Madonna did it years ago and it worked for her.
Give me GaGa anyday than the miming and unoriginal Cheryl Cole who's all hype and no substance with not an original or artistic bone in her body.

fully agree with this...

im no fan of female artists taking off clothes to boost record sales, but in gaga's case i think its pertainant to her image. i dont think anyone buys her music just because shes half naked.

Her music stands on it's own. I heard her music and loved it before I ever saw what she looked like.

I wouldn't care if she performed in a brown tabbard and marigolds - she is a brilliant singer/songwriter/performer and Bad Romance is one of the best pop songs of the last decade in my opinion. Not bad considering it was released in the last 2 months of it!

I'm glad not many people agree with the OP

I don't see how she is a great songwriter, I mean her songs have catchy hooks, but her lyrics lack any meaning, usually they're some to do with sex. Her voice isn't strong enough for me. It's also got that wiff of RnB production that has been done to death over the past decade albeit with an electro twist!

I heard "Just Dance" before I even knew what Gaga looked like and I loved it immediately. So I disagree, OP. But I do think you have a point

I disagree, her music is so popular because it is so catchy and 'perfect pop'.

Yeh same. I only realised the extent of her crazy dress sense after she had become an established artist in the UK.

The same could be argued for a lot of chart artists would jls sell records if they were all 20 stone?

No - I buy an album based on the quality of the artist's music not what they look like. Of course, GaGa's image helped her stand out from the crowd but the Fame & The Fame Monster are an excellent body of quality pop music and one of the best albums I've bought ever.

she wouldn't have a record deal doing this kind of music without an image so no she wouldn't sell any.

I bought her album before all the weirdness, i'd still listen to her music though i doubt any of us would have heard it to be honest. Its the media that tries to make a bigger deal about "personalities".

Nope. I'm no fan of her outfits, only really like one of her outfits in Just Dance video. The Fame Monster, however, is a brilliant pop album.

Yes she would.

She might well not have sold as many CDs if it weren't for her image, as her image means more publicity and record sales for any artists are very much dependent on publicity and not just the quality of music in its own right - after all, if less people were aware of her (or anyones) music then it stands to reason that less people are going to buy it.

However, I think to claim she wouldn't even have a record deal and wouldn't sell any records if she just dressed in jeans and a T shirt is a bit ridiculous.
