What do people normally buy when they go to Greggs or Sayers? I'm terrible as I generally always get more than one thing. I usually get 2 sausage and bean pasties and a meat and potato pie. Thankfully I don't go to Greggs very often, otherwise I would be 20 stone in no time

I just love the pasties from there though. There also used to be a pie shop I used to go to where I used to live and they sold little rum chocolate cakes, so my calorie intake hit the roof everytime I went there

They're only in the Merseyside area. In Sayers I usually go fot the traditional Pasty or a sausage roll.

I don't think I've ever been in a Greggs but if I did I'd go for a Meat & Potato pie.

Never heard of Sayers either. I only been in Greggs once, i was told their sausage rolls was great, so I got some last year, never again, vile greasy, tasteless rubbish. If that is the standard of their products, then I will stay well away.

Out of interest, does anyone know how many calories are in the likes of pasties and meat and potato pies? I think they must be quite a lot especially from a bakery.

Greggs doesn't sell anything that isn't laden with saturated fat so I avoid.

Our local Greggs do lovely meat and potato pies, both flat and deep filled pies. They are most famous for their pasties though, especially the sausage and bean pasty which is to die for

I always remember that greggs sold pies but never seen them in Yorkshire or in London.

Also the website says nothing about them.

There's a Sayers in Manchester.

I was going to ask whether they are related, as they have the same blue livery as Greggs.

Chicken or Steak Bake.

The fillings are beautiful, and it's about £1, does me well for a snack, and sometimes lunch.

Don't they have mayo and lots of margarine/butter on them though?

For the first time in about 3 years on Monday I had a chicken pasty. Dear GOD it was divine. Followed by a fudge doughnut. So glad no Greggs are within walking distance of my house or I'd be even fatter than I already am.

Where I live ( Birkenhead, Wirral ), there were loads of Sayers.
Then Greggs appeared and Sayers started to close/ relocate.
Anyway, I love meat and potato pasties from both Sayers AND Greggs !

There is a chain of Sayers cafe's in Western Australia, Perth, Fremantle area I wonder if they are related to the Northern bakeries?

The Sayers is also one of the names I am tracing in my family tree, but nothing linking to the bakeries so far.

Never been in either, I daren't. I put on 2lb once when I looked in the window. The sight of everyone outside scoffing with pastry crumbs all down their fronts makes me feel ill.
I realise that makes me sound terribly snobbish but it really doesn't look very nice.
