iphone battery life with gmail push email comapred to manual fetch
I notice that gmail now does 'push' funny that cos the AppleCare team didnt know when i asked them!
If I set it up do i delete all gmail accounts/calendars/contacts that i have already to set up on my iphone before i set up the push method? http://www.google.com/support/mobile...40&topic=14252 when i set this up will it use *much* more battery that manually checking or fetching every 15mins or is it not that noticable a difference? i would like push email but not at a vast battery expense Mike |

I'm running a 3G jailbroken and using the exchange server for gmail I am not noticing any difference in battery life, I left my phone for 5 mins after setting up like in your link to allow it to download all my stuff and yeh was good to go.
I did however notice that my inbox did not download fully, I had to go to settings --> mail, contacts, calenders --> google sync account --> mail days to sync --> no limit before my inbox downloaded in full. as for removing your google account already added it would be best to remove it before or after u add the exchange server as you will just end up with duplicate email accounts and contacts and calender entries. |

It depends how much email you get. If you get loads of email then it is more efficient checking every 15 mins and having them all come at once. I don't, so I find it better on battery life to be pushed. Before I had push it would have to check every 15 mins and a lot of the time there was no email.
If you set up a Google Push Exchange account then it will clear all existing contacts and calendars anyway. So make sure you get any contacts and calendars that are important off your phone first and then get them on to Google Calendar and Mail. |
