Who aggrees that eastenders this week has been a total shambles? Focusing on 2 pathetic storlylines and nothing else and no sign of the square on tuesday and thursday, and only 5 mins on Todays and Mondays epsiodes. Eastenders is starting to lose it. Brookside already has, Emmerdale has half-last it for the last 5 years and corrie is the only soap that loses it and manages to bounce back- its been doing it for the last 40 years.

His name is Asif. This week has been nothing but 2 really dull storylines. 30 minutes of inside the bog in the Queen vic would provide better stories.

Oh well - I actually thought they were quite interesting myself! I thought the bit where Craig went to kiss Martin was funny, and although the dialouge between them lacked detail and could have been given a bit more 'time', on the whole it was quite good!
Also I loved the twist at the end with Steve and Jan.....very cleverly played out!

I too thought this weeks eastenders was good (the Steve Owen line moreso). I was a bit dulled by the Martin and Asif to london trip - fake and uniteresting!

But the Steve Owen line was good, not as good as the Phil Mitchell vs Grant about a year or two ago now... But better than the usual crap on the square!!

Brookie is also starting to get more interesting...!

Why was it called eastenders when it was set in the west end of london?

The writers of Eastenders have obviously been watching to much Lock, Stock...., Snatch and The Last Seduction.

I disagree. This is the sort of thing that Eastenders does really well. In my opinion, the Martin & Asif story was a nice insight into 2 of the younger characters, taking them further than the usual episodes can.

Next week features another of Eastenders 2-hander episodes between Kat & Zoe Slater. It is just a shame that the press have given away the big twist in that tale.

Erm no, it says something when you start a topic saying it's lost it's edge this week, as opposed to EVERY week which is what we get now.

God I remember that storyline so clearly now! Was it really three years ago?! It seems so recent. And I agree, I remember the Martin/Asif stuff being utterly TERRIBLE, but the Steve story was brilliant, if a little daft.

Oh yes, Eastenders definitely had an edge three years ago...the "You aint my muvva" "Yes I am!" episode springs to mind as well as evil Trevor. I think this weak week with Steve, Martin and Asif was nothing more than the occasional weak week that every good soap has, not a sign of the show's impending dark period that we are all currently suffering through. I mean, this week of episodes screened before the Kat and Zoe storyline (they mention that its coming up though) which was probably the peak of Eastender's popularity. The real bad times for EE didn't really start until mid 2002.

Whatever happened to Asif? He was a great character, but just seems to have faded away.

Asif went off to University in Scotland about a year ago.
