I am thinking about getting the Nokia 6600, but I'm not sure whether it's the right move. Could anyone on here please tell me whether there are any known bad points or bugs with this phone and whether this is worth upgrading to from a Samsung V200.
I heard there was some problem with names on texts not being recognised because the numbers weren't saved in +44 format, is this true? How good is the camera picture quality?

Any comments on this phone would be helpful.

The +44 names thing is true. there is another thread in this forum about it. but it's not that big a problem.

The camera is good 640x480

If you're considering 6600, it may be worth looking at Siemens SX1, very similar spec, but SX1 has built in MP3 and radio. (also unusual keyboard).

yes but also at the same time it will come with a nice price tag on it , also you can get a MP3 program for the Nokia and the radio uses far to much battery, i would recomend get a seperate radio they aint that big now anyway.

the phone i would get is called the K700 it isnt out yet but when it comes out it will be very very good its a Sony Ericsson phone that should be out in May/June.

Radio doesn't use much battery, I listen most of the day - built in radio not the radio over GPRS nonsense.
MP3 does use up battery, but the 3rd party for 6600 ones don't have stereo support.

umm are you sure they dont ?? i was reading this on Howard Forums and they wer arguing over it does and it dont.

Not sure what you're referring to:
Radio - pretty confident it doesn't use up much, definitely much less than Mp3.
Stereo - 6600 does not support stereo output, even if the software does, there's no way for the hardware to utilise this.

The MP3 programs you can get for Series60 (MP3Go, UltraMP3 etc.) will NOT play out stereo, as the output of the phone is only mono.

I do recommend the 6600 though - great phone.

Yea i agree! Im definitely getting a K700 when they come out!

Yes, the K700 is looking nice. In particular it's (relatively) small size. Of course it's not a smartphone (so less 3rd party software), though not far off. If it had expansion slots, that'd be much better, otherwise MP3 and video will soon fill it up. By the time it comes out, 1MP cameras will be creeping in too, but if the price is right, it could be a bestseller.

Thanks for all your comments guys, think I will invest in this phone now (I just found out that that +44 text problem was Orange only anyway, which is a slight bonus as well).

Just one more question. I'm thinking about going on O2 online Pay Monthly and I don't know whether to bother with the insurance plans (I'd rather not). What would happen if my phone was lost and I didn't have insurance. Would I be lumbered with the line rental and no phone, or would O2 replace the handset with maybe a small charge?
