Malting Cat

My OH's cat is malting alot (and I mean alot). I had him on my knee yesterday for about 2 minutes. Then when I put him down there was a lot of his fur on my jeans.

He is 10 months old

Is this normal?

You need to brush the cat to get rid of the excess hair in a controlled way.

Get a decent cat brush from the pet shop and give him a good brushing every day.

Can be I'm afraid. You can try helping out with regular brushing it'll get some of it out. Hopefully it'll only be two times a year when its this bad. You might want to use blankets or covers of your soft furnishings until its over at least you can take them up and wash them may save on the hoovering a bit.

Also the bad malter I had was also my most prodigious hairballer so maybe you have that to look forward to too?!

It is the spring. Cats need to be groomed regularly. Buy a brush or a hand mit.

The state of the fur is important. Make sure there are no matted bits or seeds in the fur.

Some cats do moult far more than others. Get the cat used to grooming, try using a Furminator comb which really effectively removes loose hair.

Its all normal. Mines losing her winter coat at the moment as well so its brush time or fur everywhere time lol

My cats adore being groomed It sorts out the moulting issue, and they love the 'extra' fuss just as much as I love brushing them.

Its perfectly normal for cats (and dogs for that matter!) to moult.

Ha ha...yes, I saw the thread title and wondered if this was a new breed of cat I'd never heard of; something to do with vinegar possibly
