Just back off holiday and noticed my ITV Central East has now changed to West and then read this thread, I see Central East is in Non-Freesat mode, can I change it back to East in Freesat mode by using a different post code?

If you view the channel you think is Central East in non-freesat pretty sure you will find it's the same content as waht you are viewing in freesat mode. ITV are using different feeds for some of the regional channels and at the same time have upped the quality to 704 x 576 pixels

Right, I haven't had time to take a look, I'll check the local news tonight, thanks.

Regional news as well - albeit an opt out in the main programme rather than a full service as it used to be.

There is an unencrypted version of "ITV1 Meridian E", I'm not sure if carries Meridian Tonight with an opt-out for Kent and East Sussex but worth a look at.

It's not only ads that are different - there is a split section of regional news - Anglia West shows

"A news bulletin for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes."

This however is not available on freesat for the reasons mentioned above.
