This interests me for some odd and undefined reason.

OK. So. If he gets paid for every episode he shoots (maybe per hour of filming or whatever) then am I correct in thinking that he doesn't get paid at all until the filming for the next series starts ? So he's without income for a few months ?

OR...

Does he get a lot of money from loyalty fees and interviews and stuff while he's not being paid for filming ?

OR...

Does he get paid monthly regardless of the amount of filming they're doing ? So he's always getting something coming through ?

Of course it could be a combination. I'm just wondering.

I would imagine he gets paid by BACS like pretty much everyone else...

Good question!

I would have thought there would be a fee of XXX for completion of the series. There would probably also be additional fees for use of his image in toys, etc.

It would not be an hourly rate: it would be a pre-arranged figure which would include promotional stuff and other bits, and would all be decided before he signed the contract.

When I was a child, I used to actually wonder whether the kids that appear in toy adverts had to accept money or whether they could just take the toy home. At the time, I favoured the latter.

As for Matt, I reckon they dig out old David cheques and cross off the last few zeroes?

In real life, I'll wager that he has a contract that promises him x in however many instalments over however much time (completely unlinked from shooting and broadcast schedules) and some sort of royalties agreement in place for merchandising and rebroadcast/DVD/etc profits.

Good question.

Most people in TV seem to be paid per episode, so Id imagine that applies to Matt Smith, too. It does stand to reason that he would be paid for appearances on interviews.

How much hes paid: who knows?

Paypal.

I agree it's probably a combination of image rights etc. and staggering the payments for the actual episodes over the whole year.

But it's definitely through Paypal.

He would get a retainer for being Doctor Who (exclusively), his fee for the series, and his fee for licensing.

He will be on vastly more tha the first doctor, who was paid 13,000 for his last series in 1966. However, even after tax, he would still be able to buy a house and a Rover 2000 back then.

Are you asking how much is he on, about the actual transaction or the structure of the contract?

Just the structure of the contract. It's none of my business how much he gets paid.

Fee for the episodes
Fee as a retainer for being Who
Fee for repeats
Fee for his image
And not forgetting there is probably a percentage based on international sales

He's on a lot less than Tennant was earning, which was apparently about 100,000 an episode.
Take a 0 off for Mr. Smith!

A big dumper truck backs up to his house and they dump cold pressed latinum on his front lawn...

His contract was rumoured to be in the region of 500k for three years. Which was considerably less than DT's contract.

And to be fair, it is only his first series as the doctor. I'm sure Tennant's money got higher and higher each series.

Perhaps he pays them for the priviledge like a scientology type thing?
Perhaps he gets it in a collection of luncheon, H&M amazon and audible vouchers?
