In the 1980s 30 odd years ago - there were very few Olympic sized pools in the UK (and yes - even fewer full size ice rinks). Most competitive swimmers trained in their local 25 or 30m pools as the distance to a full Olympic pool on a regular basis for training was just impossible. I myself was a Irish interprovincial swimmer and my training pool was a walloping 25m - like most British swimmers we were brilliant at tumble turns - we had to be!

Say what you like - the way you have belittled Sharron's achievements in virtually every post you have made in this thread and others come across as sneering. You seem to think that her achievements were worthless. We get it - you think she's a total waste of space - but I, and a lot of other people consider that anyone who can come second in a major world sporting event is pretty good at what they do.
Sharron's Olympic achievement was one of the best performances by a British female swimmer for nearly 20 years and not beaten for many more. Your comments are even more unfair when you take into account that until the Beijing Games, she was probably the youngest ever British Olympic competitor at the age of 14 when she went to Montreal.
Her record in British, European, Commonwealth and Olympic events was pretty good for the generation in which she competed - especially given the general lack of facilities and financial support available back then. In fact her record would be pretty good even in today's statistics.
I'm sure that all the other GB commonwealth medallists would love you to stand up in front of them and tell them that their achievements and years of hard work are worthless.
