Having taken the 7 - 8 seconds it takes to check such details, she actually came back to Silver and Bronze medals, not gold. That, in my book, is indifferent compared to the other greats she was listed alongside.

NOW there are competition sized rinks in the UK but Torvill & Dean and Robin Cousins before them and John Curry before that all went to train overseas because in their competitive days there weren't ANY rinks of international competition standard in the UK. Torvill & Dean trained at Obertsdorf in Germany and Robin and John Curry both trained in the US.

In addition to which, the rinks in the UK were all more focused on the public sessions for which people paid to skate than in providing ice time for people to train seriously. There were no multi-rinks in the UK, which would allow training on one rink and public sessions on the other. In those days skaters couldn't make a living from skating and still compete, so they had to work part-time doing other jobs and train at odd hours. Before Chris and Jayne got their grant which allowed them to train at Obertsdorf, they were training in the middle of the night in order to fit around their work hours and the local rink's public sessions. In their autobiography, Karen and Nicky also spoke about how they had to train in between public sessions and, as soon as they received sponsorship, they also went to Obertsdorf to train.

Indeed - most of the Olympic size pools have been built in the three decades since Davies swam competitively. It's ridiculous to suggest that Davies competed against a larger field, therefore had to be greater. T&D repeatedly took on and beat the best in the world, never achieved by Davies.

Oh then I apologise for misinterpretating what you said. I also happen to agree with him.

I call Jason an 'odious little man' in most of my posts about him. Should I vary how I address him? Should I be using these adjectives hateful, obnoxious, detestable, loathsome, abominable, abhorrent, nasty, loathful, repulsive, execrable, heinous, hideous, revolting, accursed, vile, repugnant, foul etc

Whatever - Mr or Ms Spcfc - Sharron has still achieved more success in her 47 years most people - even probably you have.

Credit where its due - she has won medals on a world stage in a highly competitive sport which most people in the UK haven't - and I stand by by comments that in the 1980s there were an awful lot more swimmers around than there were ice skaters.

If you have achieved more than she has - you can criticise - if you haven't - well ........

In the 1980s 30 odd years ago - there were very few Olympic sized pools in the UK (and yes - even fewer full size ice rinks). Most competitive swimmers trained in their local 25 or 30m pools as the distance to a full Olympic pool on a regular basis for training was just impossible. I myself was a Irish interprovincial swimmer and my training pool was a walloping 25m - like most British swimmers we were brilliant at tumble turns - we had to be!

Say what you like - the way you have belittled Sharron's achievements in virtually every post you have made in this thread and others come across as sneering. You seem to think that her achievements were worthless. We get it - you think she's a total waste of space - but I, and a lot of other people consider that anyone who can come second in a major world sporting event is pretty good at what they do.

Sharron's Olympic achievement was one of the best performances by a British female swimmer for nearly 20 years and not beaten for many more. Your comments are even more unfair when you take into account that until the Beijing Games, she was probably the youngest ever British Olympic competitor at the age of 14 when she went to Montreal.

Her record in British, European, Commonwealth and Olympic events was pretty good for the generation in which she competed - especially given the general lack of facilities and financial support available back then. In fact her record would be pretty good even in today's statistics.

I'm sure that all the other GB commonwealth medallists would love you to stand up in front of them and tell them that their achievements and years of hard work are worthless.

People can like or dislike Sharron but why snipe at her sporting achievements.

Sharron is a medallist and was therefore at the top of her sport - at least in this country. She has won gold medals and I don't understand this sniping at someone who has achieved more in her sporting career than most people can even hope to aspire to.

Okay she was not the best ice-dancer but she gave it her best shot. She was bullied and and suffered the taunts of Jason Gardiner and now Wtchfndr Spcfc is putting his or her two halfpence in and sticking his or her boot in. It is quite unnecessary.

Why indeed? Ridiculous, really, and might seem to be a vendetta of some sort. Or just a general gripe at life?

Some people leave a trail of slime as they go. Perhaps this make them feel better, which is sad, but there it is.

Having read Sharron's blog (http://www.sharrondavies.com/SD_Read...tegory=doiblog) if I didn't think she was stitched up on Sunday I certainly do now! Poor Sharron I don't know how she's stayed so calm.

Seriously changed my opinion on Chris Dean too. Still have huge respect for both him and Jayne but it seems you can't rise to the top of your game and have people fawning over you left right and centre without growing a mighty large ego!
