Well when you listen to various luvvies raving on about how EE tackles the sensational storlines with hard hitting drama and how PC they are it makes me want to throw.

Hard hitting drama my a**e. Crap acting crap storylines, crap producer

It's just that whilst some people may not like the prog. a lot of people do. i don't like Corrie, but i don't watch it and don't continually drone on about how boring i find it. i certainly wouldn't expect it to be axed because i personally don't like it.

Over time, I have went from:


Must see Eastenders, don't watch Corrie, to
Must see Eastenders, watch the ocassional Corrie,
Must see Eastenders and Corrie
Not bothered if I miss Eastenders, Must see Corrie
Corrie Rocks, what's Eastenders again?

Of that ad with Andy Hunter is meant to make you want to watch EE, it doesn't really make you want to, does it?


I even saw a billboard that had a picture of Andy, Alfie and Kat on it with the phrase, "Everyone's Talking About It"

Oh, please, I haven't cared what's been going on in EE since around the start of Feb though I do sometimes still watch it as there is nothing else reasonably ok to watch anyway.

I have tried so many times to get interested in EE but the plots are either ludicrous or depressing. Im sure EE is responsible for many calls to the Samaritains. Then again if I was feeling depressed and watch the miserable lives of the miserable characters in EE then I would feel great

Yeh I agree EastEnders has been off for some time but every soap does go through a bad patch. Corrie is great the moment but it will soon run out of steam and there'll be a dry patch storyline wise. EastEnders are going to bounce back with some new characters. The Beeb are all too aware of the things that are wrong with the program at the moment and they will sort it. EastEnders will still be here in five years time, no question. And recent episodes have shown that EE are trying to bounce back i.e. The Den/Dennis episode and now with Kat and Alfie. You can say the storylines are rubbish but fact is millions watch it every week and there's no way it will be axed.

But this bad patch has been going on for months! It's at least 6 months since the Ferreras came into it, isn't it?

On the 3rd of May It will be 11 months we've had of the dreadful Ferrieras!

Sorry if we're 'droning on'. But most of the people complaining are people who USED TO like it and don't any more. We're also not saying it should be axed because we don't personally like it. We're saying it used to be good, it isn't good any more, and we don't think it will ever be good again. There is a difference.

Axe Eastenders ... you must be of your rockers for suggesting it .... I like millions don't watch Corrie and as far as i see it Eastenders will run and run ... so whats so exciting about Corrie ... the gay kiss ... more like johnny just come ... Eastenders has covered all that in years gone bye ... so to see people say Corrie is great because if some gay characters being introduced just makes me laugh. Eastenders is here to say, there is no question about it being axed .... and the last time I remember, colleagues at work still talk about each episodes the ady after its been aired.

Exactly. Years gone by. It's day is done. Nowadays it's just gangsters and ridiculous comedy, like Patrick getting drunk and getting into bed with Dot. How predictable can you get!

I think that although EE has gone from bad to worse recently, it could easily return to it's former glory with a few personnel changes on the writing staff. Soaps always have bad patches and a lot of soaps that are twice as bad have survived so I don't see EE getting axed anytime this decade..

Yes. That is why I refered to the "sponsorsip bumbers". Obviously they are implying that both Cadbury's and Corrie are the nations favourite.

It's catchy. And what advertising execs are paid to come up with. No more or but certainly no less up themselves than the "everyone's talking about it" campaign.

Eastenders - Everyones talking about it. Can you really see it being axed? I think not, it still maintains an average audience of 11 - 12 million.

Eastenders is still peforming whether you like it or not, with the state of its current storylines and still attracting large audiences I doubt itll be off the telly in our life time

If your talking about EE being axed just because of its recent storylines, then coro cobbles crap should have gone years ago..

All Eastenders is going through is a rough patch, every soap goes through one. When Eastenders is not in a rough patch it easily is the top of the soap, but as soon as the ratings nudge down a bit (people are making out they have plumeted lol) people are so quick to knock it to the ground. Eastenders will always pullin ratings, and as for being axed, it wil never happen, well not in the foreseeable future.
It isn't unbearable at the moment, it's fine, it may not have the best of it's storylines but it still gets people talking about it. If it wasn't such a popular soap then there would be such a chaos about it being so bad. If corrie was like Eastenders at the moment then i'm sure the corrie fans would be defending that. It can't be top soap all the time.

I don't see the Beeb axing EE, it's too big a flagship programme, but, speaking as someone who gave up on it about 2 years ago and only sees the occasion episode now, it does seem to be in dire straits. My own reasons for starting to miss it/giving up (I was someone who'd video it if I was going out and quite frequently watched the omnibus on a Sunday as well as every episode during the week) was the entire programme seemed to be based round the Slaters, and other characters just weren't developed and seemed pushed into the background. I got bored with the Slaters and the gangster element that was gaining emphasis. It is amazing the amount of people I know, formally complete addicts, who have either given up on EE entirely, or just watch for a few minutes of an episode before turning over.

although i dont see the beeb axing eastenders, i do think that it has been extremley poor of late, and i have found myself losing interest in it, and watching more and more corrie, but as soon as eastenders or "crapenders" as all my friends refer to it as gets back on its feet, i am sure i will immeadiatley start to watch it again.

Err, who exactly has said that? Not many that I can tell. There are plenty of reasons to give as to why Corrie's so great and the gay kiss is WAY down the list...

Oh and Phil Mitchell was awful imo. That's one good thing that HAS changed, even if it's only temporary. Really really bad, and just as "gangstery" as the current Andy thing, probably much more so. I couldn't stand the amount of screentime and big stories given to that bloke...

Phil was much better than Andy! Phil had some sign of being multi-layered. He was interesting because you never knew whether or not he was actually intending to make a go of life as a family guy or not. Also, the story-lines surrounding him weren't all gangster plots like Andy's. Phil was a versatile character.

Well nothing lasts forever and one day be it in 10, 50, 100 or 200 years time EE will be no more and dare I say it neither will Corrie!
It's highly unlikely that Eastenders is even being considered for the chop as it is still BBC 1's best performing show, even if it's beaten some weeks over the year it is the BBC's biggest show. So what if it includes the weekend omnibus in that, it still shows people are watching it!
However I do have to say I've gone from being a big fan of the show to not being too bothered. There seems to be a lack of any decent storylines and the acting has gone down hill faster than a cheese at the cheese roll!!
There are some big changes that need to happen. Vicky Fowler, The Fererria's, Zoe Slater, Charlie Slater, Derek Whatever!, Andy Hunter, Gary Hobbs, Minty Gus and Juley all need to go as (in my opinion, before you all have a go at me ) they either can't act, have awful storylines or they just have no real point in the show. Each soap needs characters for background but MINTY, why???
Louise Berridge is being blamed for everything on here which is fair enough but the entire script writing team need a boot up the ar*e too.
I agree about The Mitchells returning at Christmas might boost the ratings although as I have put elsewhere on here the script writers are going to have to come up with something very goodo for us all to forget that Phil is in trouble with the police for armed robbery and escaping custody, and re-cast Michelle Fowler and bring her back with Grants child that would give us a change from the usual "gangster stories" we're having at the moment.

People in this thread seem to think that all soaps go through a bad patch and all recover eventually. Unfortunately thats not always the case - Crossroads, Night and Day, Brookside, Eldorado....

When Brookie had millions of viewers but started to go bad, I bet people never even dreamed of it being axed. After all, it was Channel 4's biggest show, and a major brand - surely they wouldn't axe such a big show that paved the way for soaps like EE and Corrie to cover more controversial issues? But, as we know, it got axed, even though during its last year it wasn't too bad - but by that time it was too late.

Eastenders could be in danger if it carrys on going downhill. These things don't always get better.

Yeah. Brookside is the best example. It's never been as popular as EastEnders, but for a long time it was Channel 4's biggest show, by some margin - then it lost the plot. It took several years, but it was axed in the end. I agree EE being axed is not going to happen anytime soon, but of course it could happen a few years down the line.

Brookside may have suffered though because Phil Redmond remained at the helm and started to run out of passion and good ideas. EE needs some new producers and writers and maybe to get rid of a couple of characters.

I am watching it at the moment and Mark's funeral is annoying me. Garry is saying "I can't believe this is happening." Sorry, but why does Garry care so much? I mean, yes, it's sad, I would be sorry if someone in my street died or someone I knew a bit died, but did I miss something between Garry and Mark?!

The Andy-Kat-Alfie storyline is crud. Alfie was helping to lift EastEnders by being a bit of comic relief, now he is well and truly sucked into the misery. Andy is a joke gangster.

Ferreiras, awful. Dennis and Sharon - there's something wrong about it, not because they are related, as they are not, but because Den is right that Sharon is the first person who has shown Dennis a bit of real affection and care (other than Vicki to whom he is actually biologically related).

Martin and Sonia? What!? After he got her pregnant, ignored her, and killed her fiance by driving like an idiot? What!?!?!

Vicky - bad actress. When she was shouting at Den a couple of weeks ago I wanted to kick in my TV. Horrendously painful to watch.

Little Mo rape storyline - horrible, horrible, horrible and the beginning, I feel, of the recent VERY badness of EastEnders.
