They just don't get it, do they?

The thing for me is that I feel her personality is what spoils her performances. She is an uberly bubbly stage school type and she overdoes the personality aspect of her performances and that takes away from what is good about her from my point of view and makes the overall effect irritating

Last week when she calmed down a bit I liked her performance more.

Gary's personality (or lack of it) spoiled his performances for me aswell up until this week when I felt her injected a bit more personality into things

I guess those two are polar opposites for me. Hayley generally overdoes it and spoils her performances IMO and Gary usually underdoes the personality aspect to the same effect

I don't remember Ray getting the sort of non-stop stick Hayley's getting this year. And I loved Ray so I would have thought I'd have noticed anti threads more than I would for Hayley whom I love a little less. He certainly didn't escape unscathed but I can't remember quite so many vociferous posters wanting him to lose.

There were loads of anti -Ray threads last year. Loads of accusations of smugness and people hating him from x factor days. Much worse I'd have said than anything thrown Hayley's way this year.

I remember some but not as many. Maybe I've blocked them out. Or maybe I'm being misled because I was expecting thousands and there weren't as many as I was expecting. Incidentally, I disliked him intensely during his X Factor days too but he was much more likeable on the ice - I thought he was brilliant.

Does anyone remember the fan wars between Chris and Suzanne fans, those were /really/ heated.

There were quite a few about Ray (and incidently about Chris and Suzanne - although I think more about Chris). It does seem to apply to the people with the highest marks more than to the people that come second or third on regular basis. The reason being that everyone that likes someone else concentrates their dislike on the top person (maybe they see them as they the greatest competition?).

Edit: Just saw your post Fantastic Fox, and I do remember them. They were really heated.

There were threads last year that stated actual hate in the title, if you put Ray Quinn into the search these come up but cannot be accessed. Ray was spectacular I didn't mind him winning even though I was supporting Donal.

Oh, I know Ray attracted some extreme vitriol from people who really had something against him and, yes, this was probably worse than anything Hayley has so far had to contend with. However, I just don't remember so many threads/posts as the continual stick Hayley seems to be getting.

No sorry I was speaking in general there not specifically about what you said in your post. I was making the general point that criticisms about people (even if they are very good) aren't necessarily untrue.

My first post for that year ended up being a rant about how people in Britain don't support true talent because they'd rather support an underdog. That year was so heated with arguments over who was better.

Yeah we were hehe. I loved Chris and Suzanne but I was so mad at the way people used to put down Suzanne because she was excellent.

Can you not see the same thing happening right now with Hayley and Dan. Maybe it's just some people in Britain that are obtuse, and Hayley and Dan are continuing to work hard, and they both CERTAINLY entertain me

Ooh do we get to have the 'Hayley is nowhere near as good as Suzanne was' argument now?

Does it really matter if Hayley is a bubbly 'stage school' type? The point shoud be that she's working hard, going for it and willing to put everything into her routines. Surely that should matter more?

I like Hayley I really do. She's a lovely girl and she dances beautifully. But she's not my favourite and I don't apologise for that. I don't care if she does lifts or not or how long she spends in the air. The reason I critique her /skating/ is because I don't believe the footwork she does on the ice is as complex as the footwork some of the other contestants are doing.

/However/ I do find any comments about her personality and the way she throws herself into the competition are disgraceful. I have found those kinds of comments disgraceful /every/ year and I have stuck up for people I haven't liked because of it.

But no. This isn't nearly as bad as earlier years. Not even close.

I absolutely understand that you have another favorite that's not Hayley and Dan...that's not what I'm saying! I'm glad you enjoy her performances, as I do think she works very hard at making them good.

The only reason I may appear harsh on DS is because of the fact that the critical comments about Hayley are aimed at her personality or appearance, not her skating ability....which I find really really horrible, as she is a human being that is doing NO hard to anyone...all she is trying to do is to create some nice routines for people to enjoy and to entertain....whats so bad about that?

I have just joined DS this year...so I wouldn't know. But I'm surprised, as other years must have been DREADFUL if this year is light hearted.

The rest of the weeks won't be enough for Hayley I don't think. She's way behind Suzanne's skating skills.

Interested to see what she makes of the jump though. If she manages more than a 3 jump I might even change my mind about her.
