Songs that are better when performed live.
I know it is rare.
I am a huge fan of live music, but to be realistic due to the energy, a song is much superior when studio-produced, even though I prefer live for the experience. But, the experience aside, do you all know any songs that actually sound BETTER live? My personal one is 'D.I.N.O.S.A.U.R' by Ke$ha. I heard it first on MTV Push, and it was awesome. Very catchy and just and intriguing song, however the album version was very disappointing. I think it's because the live version has drums/guitars and just more general bass and beat to it. I would say Bruce Springsteen & The E Street doing - Born To Run very energetic, powerful and sing along, Incident On 57th Street simply a brilliant live song, Jungleland - again very powerful and emotive when you have 10,000+ singing back Jungleland.

A lot of Primal Scream songs, while they sound great on albums and CDs, are absolutely amazing live- ones that spring straight to mind are Rocks, Country Girl, Swastika Eyes, Suicide Bomb, Cant Go Back etc. Im dying to go to another Primal Scream gig because they are a perfect live band!
![]() City of Bugs by The Cribs is another one that is absolutely immense live, as is Kasabian's Fire and Florence's Kiss With a Fist. |

Bat For Lashes - I Saw A Light.
It's amazing enough on CD, but live it's another thing. She has so much passion when singing and playing it's overwhelming sometimes. I've only seen her play it live once, though (seen her three times). |

i'd say pretty much anything by Muse.
I've never really been that fussed about them on record but live they are undeniably brilliant and one of the best in the world. It changes the songs from ones i'm a bit meh about to being really damn good just through the scheer power. Saw them at their recent hometown gigs and it was just wow. Turning the question around i would say a band who is amazing on record but not live is Bloc Party. I've never understood it as they have a top rhythm section with Matt and Gordon but live they always sound so weak and the sound is really thin with no dynamics. The drums sound a cardboard box being hit. And they've never been able to incorporate the electronic sounds with the live instruments to a decent degree. A shame. |

First one that comes to mind is Elvis Costello andWatching the Detectives.
when I saw him in 1980/81 he did it mixed with his take on Masterblaster by Stevie Wonder. Fanbloodytastic! |

Talking Heads were infinitely better live. When performed their songs just had a greater amount of energy, plus they added extended bass intros and guitar solos.

As I'm in a bit of a Death Cab for Cutie mood today, I'd go for "Transatlanticism" by Death Cab. They usually play it as an encore and it's absolutely immense live.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1gLQ7ae8zk My other favourite is "About Today" by The National, as the live recording they released on on EP is much better than the studio version, and again having seen them live several times it's amazing live. |

Country Feedback by REM
Don't Forget Me by R H C Peppers Lucky by Radiohead All songs I never really paid much attention to on their albums but are geniusly brilliant live. There's a Best Live Performances thread knocking about somewhere. I know because I started it! |

Pretty much everything by Metric for me. I love their music but for the most part, I feel their studio albums lose the atmosphere they create so well live.

Lily Allen - 22
Her cover of Womanizer. She did a more upbeat version instead of the boring slow version she did for Live lounge. Amy Winehouse - Back to black. It's annoying because she ruins Tears dry when she sings it live and it happens to be my fav song from her of all time. Pixie Lott - Mama do (i've seen her perform a stripped down version of this several times on tele and it's suprisingly better) |
