What are people's views on energy drinks such as Lucozade and Robinson's Barley water etc. when trying to get better or overcome an illness?

Did they work?

I find Lucozade Sport to be absolutely brilliant for rehydration whether that be self inflicted or as a result of being ill. The supermarket own brands aren't bad either (and are MUCH cheaper) but I think Lucozade has the edge.

Honestly unless I am dehydrated I can't see the benefit. But if it makes you personallly feel better, whether or not it's actually doing anything, well that's the most important thing.

I wouldn't have thought of Robinson's barley drinks as energy drinks, unless there's another type I'm not aware of? (I'm thinking of the diluted squash ones)

I think they have their uses, but it does make me uncomfortable to see people drinking them as if they were an ordinary drink. Surely it can't be good for you to overload on electrolytes and caffiene and guarana, etc. when you're not actually doing anything physically exerting or recooperating from an illness?

The reason they make you feel 'energised' is because they are full of sugar and caffeine therfore causing a false 'high'. There is no medical evidence to suggest they aid the recovery of illness.

And a sugar crash later on when you get the munchies.

hate all drinks. I call energy drinks items like Redbull, rELENTLESS. Those ones. All bad for you. Not sure they have any good qualities so not sure how they can make you better when ill sorry

I've never tried Robinson's barley water, I do love Lucozade though. Not sure if it can help you overcome an illness, I tend to prefer hot drinks when I'm ill, but I usually drink a bottle of water and a bottle of Lucozade when I'm training and it's good for a bit of energy.

It's probably better to just drink it if you like the taste though, rather than for the effects.

Tesco's generic version of Lucozade is lovely and tastes the same as Lucozade. And only 79p a bottle whereas Lucozade is closer to £2

Well nothing works for a hangover I know that much (not for me anyway - I've tried them all)

When I am ill I prefer water, tea and sympathy!!
